Defend It! - prototype

Hey guys, just wanted to share with you a little prototype I’ve been working on. It’s for a game I’ve been calling “Defend It”.

It’s supposed to be some sort of “Reverse Angry Bird in 3D” - You assemble a defense from a pile barriers scattered throughout the cenario, trying to defend your base (in the video, the base is that low poly house). You would have some time for the “defense assembly” phase and, after that time is over, your base would have to resist a barrage (a bombardment) by various towers, cannons, cataputs, ships, etc. If a barrier takes too much damage, it get’s fractured and no longer is able to stop projectiles.

Finishing a game with your base “alive” would give you credits, based on how well you performed. Credits would be used to improve your barriers, research new types of barriers, get perks, etc.

I used Blender3D’s “Cell Fracture” plugin to bake (pre-calculate) the broken barrier shards.

Special thanks to Xoppa and Badlogic Games for the effort put on the new version of libGDX’s 3D API.

So, some kind of 3D tower defense? I like the idea, it has a lot of potential (I think).
But you are fine with 3D modelling I hope? It will be a lot of (art)work.
If you’re not, I highly doubt you will be able to finish this project, but I wish you lots of fun :stuck_out_tongue:

Erm… it seems like he’s ok with the modeling part.

All the modelling you see in that image was made by me. But I’m hoping modelling won’t be very time consuming, as creating these barriers is quite easy if you know a bit of Blender scripting (the cell fracture + uv mapping process can be automated inside Blender). And thanks for the reply ;D

Btw, what really took me time, was figuring out how to do it for the first time.

Oh, and regarding the tower defense analogy. Not really, I think it doesn’t share any tower defense mechanics at all. It’s more like a “fortress building game”. The only game I know (2D though) that ~kinda~ has these mechanics is this guy here:
