Hi
Thanks to everyone who has posted here. I think that I now have some idea of the sort of spec machine my existing code runs on. It seems to run well enough (except for 1 case) that I can not worry about it for a while :).
Thank you again

Hmm ok…
Windows 98
850mhz Athlon
384mb RAM
Geforce Ti-4200 64mb
Doesn’t start. It comes up with the standard configuration window, I leave it at 640 by 480, 16 bit, tried both fullscreen and windowed, nothing happens after I click ok. Absolutely nothing. No other window appears, no indication that java is even running. Just seems to exit silently.
Hi
In the webstart utility you should be able to enable some tracing and logging. That should reveal some kind of stack trace.

K, tried on other computer, it works on that one. Specs and speed as follows
Windows XP Professional
P4 2.0 ghz processor
1gb RAM at 266 mhz (I think)
nVidia 6600 GT, 128mb
Benchmark:
1280 by 1024
32 bpp
75 Hz
both windowed/fullscreen
120-136 fps starting camera (before and after movement)
410 fps staring at the stars (no ships in view)
640 by 480
32 bpp
75 hZ
both windowed/fullscreen
120-136 fps starting camera
410 fps staring at stars
Interesting how window size has absolutely no effect on performance, heh. At least for me anyway.
Cool!
Win XP 1.4 ghz 512MB RAM
Standard Dell Laptop Video Driver (whatever that is)
Before mouse move: 18 fps consistently
After mouse move: jumps to ~400 fps and fluctuates from 350 to 450, but so fast it is blurry.
Scene is always clear and crisp. Very nice!
~63 fps
AMD athlon 950
gforce 4 TI4200 128MB
700~ ram
800x600x24 (windowed)
linux 2.6.17 with Xorg 7 and latest nvidia drivers (KDE 3.5)
JDK 1.5.0_07
(Takes forever to load tho… Might want to load textures/models in a separate thread, and show some kind of loading screen, I thought my crappy setup crashed
)
For 800x600@75Hz:
=> first test: FPS = 27
=>second test: 10.5 mil.tri/sec
Ok same specs as last post (2nd test now).
1280 by 1024
32 bpp
75 Hz
both windowed/fullscreen
26-27 million triangles (tried fullscreen/lower resolutions, exact same speed again)
The tech tests were thrown together to get it working, nothing pretty
The current version of the game client has a loading screen

1280 x 1024
16 bpp
60 hz
153 fps.
Athlon 3000+
1 gb ram
Geforce 6600GT
Slight update, since downloading JDK 1.6 beta 82 (I think?) I now receive
156-170 fps (up from about 130)
and 34 million triangles (up from 26 million)
Not a bad improvement…
Cool, not a bad increase that I’m getting for free :), makes my code look better

k7 500
ati9100 (8500)
256mb
java 1.5
800x600x32@100 windowed
1st: 25fps
2nd: 6.5 to 7.3
