Cremelian Wars X - My first game

Hey guys, here is Cremelian Wars X. It’s a turn based strategy game that was inspired by both advanced wars and starcraft, and attempts to mix some elements from both games.

This game basically revolves around managing your units in order to deal the most damage to your opponent. It features over 20 unit types, scriptable game play, a fully functional game editor, a custom sound track, and traditional pixel art!

What’s changed since the last version:

  • Fun, fully playable campaign
  • Computer opponents will actually do something now!
  • Completed map editor

So what’re you waiting for? Try it out today!

I’ve been working on this game on and off for more than a year in my free time, and am happy to say that’s in the final stages of development (i.e. content generation). If you have any comments about the gameplay, or anything else in general, I’d love to hear what you think.

It’d be great if someone could test this out. ::slight_smile:

Will try out tomorrow!

Looks good, i like the part with rambo… lol :). What’s supposed to happen when you lose …?

Btw, it didn’t work with JRE 1.5.0_20

Tis is pretty fun so far good job. Playing as I’m typing right now…

Here’s some bugs I found,
you can keep clicking the end turn button
sometimes the computer doesnt atk. I had a medic, and the viking didnt atk it even tho it was right there

work on storyline too, idk whats going on lol. But really good overall :slight_smile: :wink: :wink: :wink: :smiley:

Umm, I dont understand.

if you are going to make in a wepage. Why not just run it on a website, os we dont have to download :slight_smile:

will give more feedback in a bit trying it right now :slight_smile:

EDIT:
I really like the music :). The game is really well made. The campaign is cool, but quite short. It is just one level right? graphcis could yuse a little boost, but they are nice as they are.
is this really your first game?? or do you mean first large game?

MORE LEVELS ;D!!

Oops, you guys are right. The game doesn’t quit out when you lose. I guess this is what happens when you build the game yourself lol. You never lose. :smiley:

@insaneshane63
Alright, I’ll get started on trying to fix it. About the viking not attacking, could you tell me what level it happened on? Thanks

@h3ckboy
Yeah, that’s the plan. I’m not sure how to host a website, or make one at the moment, so the .html file is just temporary until that’s cleared up.

Just so you know, there’s more than one level. After you finish a level, click the campaign to go on to the next mission.

And lastly, yup, this actually is my first game. I started working on it about the same time I started learning java.

I’m glad that you guys like it!

Well it was the second lvl where you begin with some men and the enemy has a rigged viking. I was down to like one marine lol was about to die and the blue team had a viking left. For some reason it would just move around next to my guy but never atk, so I ended up killing it. ;D :smiley:

well if this is your first game, then you are amazing!! how long have you been working on it?

Haha, thanks.

I began working on the game after I had completed Computer Science A, which was a little more than a year ago. This is one of the early screenshots of it:

Before I knew java, this was actually a pen-and-paper game that you could play on graphing paper I made up maybe five years ago. The idea has been kicking around for a while.

So, I started testing the game. It’s cool, even with the “generic like” level. AI is really good. Considering having Applet support or web start? You’d get more players.

In the main screen, the main campaign doesn’t have a progress bar. It needs one because once selected you have the impression that the game freezes for a little while.

Have you consider having an isometric view instead of a chess view? I think it would be more interesting.

One thing I don’t really get is: I shoot you, you shoot me, I shoot you, you shoot me…and I killed you or you killed me. What’s the strategy? Protecting more powerful soldiers and use the weaker first? Like in chess?

Game instruction are clear. Not issue found here.

Not crash, no bug found.

My Setup: Win Vista 32 bits, core 2 duo 2 Ghz, 4 GB of RAM, NVidia GeForce 8600M GT 256 M, Java 6u16

I agree with you. Please have a look at Kev’s tutorial to use Java Webstart:

Let us know if something is wrong. I will give it a try. Don’t forget to put it into the Java Game Tome.

if you guys payed any attention it is already in applet form. So he is hoping to have it no a host site :).

@marinepower
you may wanna check out dyndns.com it is nice if you dnot have a static ip for making a website if that isnt your problem then I don think I can help you.

Yup, heckboy’s got it. I’ve already made some plans with a friend of mine to host it on his site, so that should happen in the next couple of days. Interesting link, though. Is that what you use for your games?

@TheAnalogKid
Thanks for testing. I’ve added in a loading screen for the game, so it hopefully won’t seem laggy now. These extra game repaints make the loading longer, since that’s done in a seperate thread now, but the graphic will hopefully make up for it.

I have considered an isometric view, but it is already proving to be exceedingly difficult to create 2d graphics, so I would image that 2.5d would be even harder.

Interesting point about the gameplay. Theres more at work than simply that, so I may need to give more instruction on the finer points of battle. Of course, they will all boil down to one unit killing another, but some things to consider would be terrain benefits, such as standing on a mountain rather than on grass, and the ranges of the two units in the battle. If you attack a flame thrower unit from two spaces away, you will be able to shoot without fear of retaliation.

Hopefully, once I finish the base AI, managing buildings and building the units themselves will add even more depth.

yeah, I use that for my games. Although apparently I wasnt active enough sot hey delete my account :/. So I gotta rehost it. Then I gotta wait a few days before the dns circulates and all that stuff.

I use a service I found somewhere on the net a long time ago. It updates DynDns every X minutes. This keeps my account active and handles my IP changing. Some routers have this capability built in.

I’ve found that Opera Unite is really good for this sort of stuff (hosting your own files), It only takes a minute or two to setup and you can share your files with the world.

yeah mine has it built in.

Hey, thanks for the great suggestions. I’ve finally gotten around to getting a host, so this game is now playable online. You can try it out here:
