Great ;D
@Demonpants & gouessej: I just spammed you guys with the details on how to access SVN! Let me know if you run into problems!
I guess so far there are 3 of us. I can add others?

how is it going, guys?
If you’re having problems with servers, I have a very big fat dedicated server which I can run anything on.
Unfortunately, I’ve been very busy finishing my college experience. I’ve got job applications and presentations falling out of all my orifices. :o
I should be able to get some work done on this Tuesday or Wednesday.
That’s ok. I’ve written the first page, only a static version. I will automatize all this… Please send me an email if you have a game to add while the submission system is not ready.
Fine, very fine. 58 games are on the website. I temporarily put this on the same website than TUER only for my tests. The submission system works fine!! I’m waiting for kingaschi, I would like to know if my temporary website will keep the definitive location in order to make some noise to allow people to know it.
The Java™ Game Tome is being filled now ;D ;D ;D
If your game is not added Sunday, do it!
Wow, nice site!
It’s really cool to have a central point where we have the games made by the JGO members. I think it’s really useful. Thanks!
Kevglass doesn’t think so:
[17:14:52] www.javagametome.com
[17:16:07] ?
[17:23:43] wierd.
[17:25:22] *** Don____ has joined #lwjgl
[17:27:46] <Don____> auto join seems to work, for me at least…
[17:27:49] <Don____> anyone wanna try it?
[17:27:50] <Don____> http://multitris.swapgeek.com/multitris.php
[17:28:17] * kappaOne pulls eyes out with a blunt spoon after looking at that website
[17:29:15] <Don____> drag is working on a new design
[17:33:50] <Dragonene_> doesn’t work for me in IE :’(
[17:37:11] that game tome thing is the other thing that tuer chap is workiing on
In french, “chap” means “gerçure”. It seems to be an insult. I see that some members are really unpolite. The Java™ Game Tome is not MY website, it is our website. kingashi and demonpants work on it too and I suggest everyone to use it. I have spent some weeks to make it work with the help of my “partners”, I’m disappointed by the behavior of some members of this website, really.
It is better to ask than to assume. Chap may mean different thing to different people. Since kevglass is from the UK, chap translates guy in North America which just translates to “personne” in French. “that game tome thing is the other thing that tuer guy is working on” which means he was on chat and forgot your screen name. If Kev had a problem with what you were doing he would tell you in a reply to your post not go behind your back and try to dissuade people from using it.
Actually, I wouldn’t, chances are I’d keep my mouth shut unless talking to people I knew well. For the record, I think the site idea (a central list of Java games) is very good but the actual page is possible the most ugly thing I’d ever seen. Some of us here complained about how bad Java Games Factory looked when it was doing the rounds - but compared to this it was a thing of beauty.
In the UK “chap” is the same “bloke”, or “dude” or “man” so it wasn’t an insult. However, if I wanted to insult you I’d have used something more like “attention seeking whiner with a chip on his shoulder the size of Africa” but it’s not as snappy.
You obviously have a problem with me either because you don’t like how I post, or that I dared to disagree with you, fine. I not fond of your attitude and style of posting either but maybe we could stop troubling the general public with it, yeah? The real shame is the TUER code is actually quite good (even the end game isn’t to my tastes) and it’s less likely to get the attention it deserves if people are focused on this junk.
Kev
What is a “gerçure” by the way? Google gives “cracking” which in english is a compliment: “Cracking cheese, Gromit!”
“Gerçure” are the little cuts you get on your lips when it is too cold (I will never use than for an insult :P)
Well, i just take a look to the java game tome. For sure, it is uggly. But if they want to do a working site first then redo the design, it is normal. (Well then the site should be kept to a really limited number of people).
For the site, I see some problems :
Edit : i don’t really like the way that game are launch directly. We should have the choise to launch them directly or to have a page with some detail.
Ah, I get it the translation now, as in “chapped lips”. Makes sense.
Kev
OK, first I think we should really not focus on the presentation for now. This web site is a first draft from the author right?. Look at the rest of the site, no other page is functional. And when I said a “nice site”, I didn’t mean the design but the concept/idea of the thing. Now, I guess that the design will evolve to a more professional presentation? To be helpful here, why looking not for an auto generated page layout from a good tool? This way there wouldn’t be a lot of time spent on HTML and CSS code. For my games I subscribed to freewebs. Even a free subscription gives you a complete site in an hour. This includes generation of web forms. The only possible missing feature would the integration of third party software and server like a DB server but that must be verified…
Fair point. I think the idea itself is great (as said above). It could do with more details on each game and the ability for the author to change their entry. For instance, putty puzzle was up there a moment ago (not sure if it still will be after this thread :)) and the screenshot wasn’t a screenshot. I’d like to change it, can I?
It’s be great to see a RSS feed of the new games as they get added also. Is there a chance we could add reviews of the games aswell?
Kev
The Java Game Tome site is still in its early build. I plan on redesigning the look in the near future. If you’re wondering what I’m capable of, here are two contrasting looking sites I have designed:
Expressive: http://www.slyhawk.com/
Minimalist: http://www.otcsw.com/
Although admittedly I used Coke and Code for inspiration on OTCSW.
Also, as far as I know the goal of the Game Tome is to be useable by absolutely everyone, easy to understand and simple. We’re definitely not trying to force any choices or anything.
There’s something very very cool about that Slyhawk site, not quite sure what it is, but it’s cool Something about it makes me feel like it’s not a web page - very nice.
Kev
Thank you! You understand what I have been doing. I want to build something that works correctly before taking care of the look and feel. Christoph will improve the appearance.
What do you mean by “browse game”? A small panel will appear under each image allowing to:
Give me the URL of the image chosen as a replacement. I will finish the functional part of the system to update game information in some days. A “news” system will be created, I will do this in some days too.
Yes I know you’re currently very busy. Please use phpBB for the forum before improving the look and feel.
A little more details : the first time, I go to the site there were 3 games in the home page. I look to the menu to look for more games and no “'Games” menu, no categories. I really was wondering how to show a list of games.
Now there is 3 screens of games… it is far too troublesome to find something. Of course, there is the search option but I dont fell it intuitive.
What I was expecting is a menu “Games” / “Browse” that will show categories (“RPG”, “Shooter”,…) then a list of game or a subcategory.
