Could I propose a new project, even if....

…I myself am not a very experienced Java programmer?

Basically, I’m your typical computer gamer. I’m brimming with ideas for that “killer” game, but I don’t have the time/talent/drive to just DO it by myself.

My question is, if I were to propose a project for one of my game ideas (with some UML design elements, perhaps), then would it have a chance of being accepted?

Is it possible to propose a project, and then just take a guiding, directing, overseeing kind of role? I mean, I could HELP with coding my own game, I’m not totally clueless, and yet I’d need someone ELSE to tell me how to do most of it…

You’d probably be better to post the idea first and gauge support. If someone who knows how to do it find the project interesting they’d probably go in with you on a proposal.

Kev

Thanks for the reply.

I might do that, then.

But I’m doing at least a high-level UML design for one of my ideas anyway (I’ve already got 56 pages of rambling waffle about the idea and the gameworld itself…).

I might post that too anyway…just in the hope of any sort of feedback really. Positive or negative.

In which forum should I post the initial tub-thumping pitch about the game idea itself?

Here in Volunteer Projects would seem to be as good a place as any… considering you’re looking for volunteers

The more detail the better imo, it’d make a change from the normal luke warm project description will normal get

Yeees, now that you mention it, this does sound like a good place to post…ahem…cough…silly me.

I dunno, Kev, I cooould wait and post a nice (if high-level) design, or, I could fall victim to my life long curse of half-cocked over-eager misguided enthusiasm and post some back-of-game-box blurb…

What about if I follow up on your initial suggestion of pitching the idea, and read replies to that whilst I get on with the shiny diagrams and stuff?

But, to re-word my initial question: Is it unheard of for a project proposer to be technically incapable of going on to become the lead programmer?

To reword my answer: No, it isn’t

Kev

Hehehe. Right, thanks. Now, if ONLY I wasn’t at work, I could get the design knock-up finished…

Watch this space…

Oooh…
