Convert b/w bitmap to texture.

I’ve have the old commodore 64 font set and have been able to create a simple teletype using raster2d and glBitmap. I’m now trying to make a star wars like scroller - a 3d teletype. When rotating on the x, y, or z, the position is correct, but text still remains upright. I’m thinking that I need to take the output and use it as a texture.

I’ve written code that converts bytes to into a rgba byte array which then can be loaded into texture memory and painted onto a plane. I suspect there is some opengl functions that would render into some byte array which can be used by a texture. In other words, take the output of my raster teletype and send into texture. Any body know how to do this??

Monty

I see from examples, I can create a display list of quads. Take my font bitmap convert it into suitable texture, and map texture coordinates to select characters from the “picture” to place onto quad.

Thanks,
