Commercial Release?

I didn’t find any previous posts on this specific topic (though it was at best a skin deep search), so I’d appreciate any thoughts on the issue.

What is required to commercially release and distribute a peice of Java software? I’ve never gotten a really firm answer, and, from what I understand, it’d require redistributing a version of the JRE.

What’s required for that? I’ve heard licensing fee’s, but nothing concrete.

(I’m not yet actually thinking of a commercial game, but I’ve come across situations where the question is valid, where I’d rather not distribute source)

Thanks for any help that can be provided

There are no ‘special’ requirements if you just want to commercially release and distribute some software written in Java. You just have to make it and release it :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m not 100% sure about the rules for distribution a JVM with you product, because I don’t do it. I don’t think there are any fees though.

You may embed the JRE in its entirety in your application; or distribute it and install it separately; or if you are a little underhand, hack it about a bit and embed it, where it falls into a grey area in the licensing.
