Come to the IRC Channel more!

the IRC channel is lonely! It’s really nice to be able to have a full conversation about issues when sometimes a forum post just doesn’t get the response one needs. Aside from that, chatting is fun.

Join us, we’re fun people.

I installed mIRC and went along to visit #javagaming and #lwjgl. You’re right, it was very quiet, so come on everyone, come join the fun!

Andy.

hEy! - I was out of town - not fair, I am usually always active

Yes yes (I better automate my mirch then)

I can imagine how lonely it is. I mean now there are only 2 persons (including me).

But if I may suggest something, move to Quakenet or IRCnet. Atleast most of the people I know are in those networks, so it would be much easier to get people when the channel would be for example:
#javagaming @ Quakenet

actually, I think it should be on a developer network, so freenode is obvious.

Maybe there should be an applet hosted by this site that allows registered forum users to chat? It would encourage people to enter the chatroom more when they come onto the website.

it’s not that people don’t want to chat, or need a client - it’s more a problem that there are few stable users.
On irc://irc.freenode.net/lwjgl (shameless plug) we’re typically 5-10 people online (sometimes less, sometimes more, depending on timezones). On both #javagaming channels, I am typically the only one online…

I have also noticed, that people are only active IRCers or Forum posters, usually not both (ok, there are many exceptions, like me. But thats only generally).

And this kind of thing (programming) is not something people like to hang out and discuss about it for hours. There are many subjects which would create discussion, but i think those are good for forums where people can come back to discuss about it after a few days.

Anyways, in Quakenet there is #java channel, which has almost always one or two active users (though there are over 100 idlers) answering for noobs’ (or less noobs’) problems. So if the special channel for Java GAMING is not going to work out, it would be a good channel to visit.
