been there, done that :-/
We had one (#javagaming @ irc.freenode.net) but noone ever came. Then we tried one on these boards - worked “ok”, but was removed later…
fwiw, my bouncer joined
We have 5 now, that’s not too bad… lurkers unite, come and hang out.
We’ll see how it goes I guess. Maybe there is some reason that it wasnt meant to be.
I would like to but the firewalls here won’t let me. :’(
oh no!!! if you are on windows, mIRC supports HTTP proxies.
check it out under firewall settings.

Ye… well it was on freenode :>
Hm… ETG :l
Why not on quakenet?
edit: #jgo is still free there

Well, IMO Freenode is the better choice, since javagaming is about developing java games more so than playing java games. Freenode caters for the developer environment, whereas quakenet is for clans and enterthegame is for gamers. Ultimately I don’t care what network it’s on, for that matter it could be on jgo’s own irc server (irc.java-gaming.org) - I’d just like an official irc channel.
Yeah whatever is clever. I just created it on enterthegame because its full of gamers and thats where I normally hang out.
I suggested it earlier, but I’d prefer an online chat window HERE

I’ve yet to see a “chat system” (applet? Php?) embedded in some WWW site which really works in a comfortable way.
I mean: why re-invent the wheel, when IRC is solid and works for decades now?
How about an IRC applet (which there appear to be a few) that connects to the appropriate channel?
Kev
I don’t care about the protocol … but I feel it should be here!
anything BUT IRC would be stupid! - it’s a simple and stable protocol, that will allow everybody to connect. Having some site only stuff will be stupid since that will require me to have a browser open all the time
An IRC applet on the site would give people who want to use it from here the chance and allow you to continue using X IRC client…
http://www.jpilot.com/products/jirc/index.html - costs 50 dollars to register, but we could try it out for free for a bit.
http://www.pjirc.com/downloads.php - seems to be totally free
http://jchatirc.sourceforge.net/main.php3 - or this
Kev
I think i can help you guys. The people on the ugcentral have made an applet where you can go into the channels on their network. I think that you can talk to them about making it available for a channel about java. That would be great. Here is the link www.ugcentral.com
glad i could help
Yay! It works
I think alot of people may stop by and see no one else there and then leave, so it just picking up could be a problem. But how about this: we could do some kind of chat session once a week at some agreed time. This way people who think about stopping by will know that at least a few people will be present. So what do you guys think, java game developers party on irc once a week? Could even schedule some meetings with a topic… just throwin out ideas here.
yeah very good idea arranged times. Except we are all in different time zones but I spose thats not really a problem.
Sounds like a great idea, I’ve poped in there a few times and nobody has been there.
