Colonist

Hey everyone! I decided to finally join these forums (been lurking for a while) as I’m trying to get feedback on a game I’ve been working on. It’s very early on in development. I’ve only been working on it for about 3 months in my free time, so I haven’t been able to make a ton of progress. Couple that with the fact that I’m still learning in some ways, and you may understand the sort of state the game is in right now.

So I’ve taken to calling the game “Colonist”, although it’s really only a working title. Colonist is a 2D top-down role-playing game set in the far future. At least that is the plan anyway. Currently, the game is more of a top-down shooter. As you can see below, it’s pretty early in development (and I’m not a great artist) but even in this state I still find it fun to play, at least for a little while.

Looks good so far.

A couple of things I noticed while playing:

  • One time, I spawned next to some stone and couldn’t move
  • I can’t pickup any more ammo that drops (unless that is an intended feature)
  • I couldn’t move diagonally (ie. pressing forward and right)
  • Sometimes the bots spawned in stone and therefore couldn’t move

Also, is there a restart button?

Thanks for the feedback! This is why it’s a good thing to have others try your game: a lot of the things you had mentioned, I had just grown accustomed to. Although the ammo pickups is definitely some sort of bug, you should be able to pick up endless amounts of ammo, so long as you either have a stack of ammo in your inventory, or have an empty slot. Keep in mind, you can’t pick anything up by holding E, you need to tap it each time. I will likely be changing that by the next release because I find it annoying myself, and it really doesn’t serve much purpose. As for the rest of your observations, they were all just missteps that I had put aside to work on other things, and then grown so accustomed to that I just left it. Much of them have easy fixes, which I will get to work on right now actually. Again, thanks for the input.

Edit: Also, no there is no restart button currently. Another aspect that I had grown accustomed to, but really needs to be added.

Great Job! ;D I played it only a few times and epically failed. I think there should be a little bit more health and something displaying the health remaining.
