Chinese applet: font name?

I recently ported a working Chinese version of a J2ME midlet to play in a desktop browser like IE or firefox as an applet and after four hours of getting question marks on the display instead Chinese i changed the font from “tahoma” to “simsun” at everything worked as expected. doh!

So anyways, is “Simsun” a standard font name for the simplified Chinese font in Java? I’m developing in winxp and i’m hoping i can use “simsun” as the font for linux and maccies. The Chinese midlet is playable here (it’s all in Chinese, the default option is “new game (easy)”)

The fonts that ship with java cover Chinese range.
It’s not a good idea to use a physical font name (like Tahoma or Simsun, whatever that font is), use
logical font name instead, like Dialog (or Serif, Sans-serif, Monospaced, and DialogInput).
This will ensure that you get the best font possible and it will work on different platforms.

Google for “physical logical font” to find more info.

Thanks,
Dmitri
