Casuality - casual games conference

Some interesting hilights from day one:

[] The mass-market thinks nothing of downloading 10Mb games (according to PopCap, Sandlot, etc)
[
] The major players are aiming at 20Mb downloads as being fine, but “you’d better have good screenshots [to make sure they don’t give up waiting] if the download is 20Mb”
[] Most interest seems to be in moving towards skill-based gaming (c.f. worldwinner, midasplayer, etc)
[
] There is still almost nothing happening in genuinely / non-trivial multiplayer casual games

Thanks for the update Blah^3. Keep em coming.

I agree to your second bullet…

…but I still prefer to program Applets. Well, plus I haven’t gotten the hang of Swing yet. I’m still coding with old AWT events.

The Java Posse is predicting the return of Applets, and I think they might be right. With broadband becoming more prevalent, and web apps becoming more popular, the time is much better for Applets now than ever.

Yeah, I like playing web games all the time since there’s no need for 25MB+ downloads. Less wait! Anyway, hope we didn’t go too far off topic here.
