Bullsquared - New Java MultiPlayer Games Site + New Games

Finally up and running! www.bullsquared.com has arrived and is now in Beta Testing (Volunteers anyone???).

Bullsquared is a pure Java Gaming Website (written using Appfuse/Hibernate/Spring MVC/JSP etc running under Tomcat/Linux for anyone interested) running only Java Applets + Java Forum.

There are 13 new games. (All Applets mostly of Board/Puzzle Type). So… The games:

5 New Multi-Player Games (Registration required, free of course!)
All the Multi-Player games (and Server) were developed by the fantastic JOGRE team (http://jogre.sourceforge.net/). I have made quite a few changes, mainly: Added Sounds/Avatars/Coloured Text for Chat, New Larger Graphics, Tabs for Meeting Room/Games Rooms, Removed Ranking + Ability to play multiple games simultaneously, hopefully haven’t broken too many things along the way!.. The Game ‘Gomoku’ I coded myself (which in truth was pretty similar to the Connect4 Code/logic so didnt take long!).

Multiplayer Games ScreenShots here:

There are a few known issues which will hopefully fix soon (described in more detail below)…

7 New Single Player Games (Applets - No Registration Required)
All games were written by me using the excellent GTGE (http://goldenstudios.or.id/) apart from the 4K game which suprisingly didnt use any API.

BugTrap - Sokoban/Boulderdash clone. Initally wrote this a few years ago but made a few changes recently (added Boulders, Boulderdash style). Most levels have been nicked from sokoban but a few are mine.

Hua Rong Dao - Chinese Slider Puzzle… Saw this many years ago on a mates mobile phone and spent hours getting nowhere. Decided to code it in Java. Its bloody hard but possible.

RevolvoMan4K - Some may know this from the 2009 java4K contest. Enough said.

ABS - Another Boring Slider. I wrote this as it was only a couple of nights coding + an extra game for the site, no other reason.

Tower of Hanoi. Same as above, easy game to write. Extra game for little Effort.

Quizzes… Each quiz has 100-130 questions so you dont find too many repitions the first few times you play em! More to come soon hopefully. Has an annoying little Midi Loop I wrote a few years ago in FL Studio… Seems to fit well!

Anyone wishing to assist in Beta Testing please feel to leave any comments/problems you find on here (or in the Bullsquared Forum, please dont register here as I will be removing the Forum Registration soon and integrating in SSO, you can post annonymously for now).

All known issues and things to do are in the below file but am sure there are loads more issues (so please consult before reporting any problems)! I’ll try and keep this up-to-date.

Future Plans. Well am hoping to fix all the issues in the next 3-6 months (progress is v. slow)… After which I just intend to write some new games. Have got about 3-4 unfinished games and have just started to use PulpCore for a new Chess Puzzle game but can’t see myself having any time for these in the near future :frowning:

ps. If anyone plays Chess to a decent standard feel free to PM me to organize a game (10-11pm UK Time preferably).

Enjoy

Hi!

It is a nice website. You write “All games require the Java plugin which most browsers have, if not it can be downloaded here.” but the link goes to java.com, do you generate a different link for Mac OS X users?

Thnx for comment. No currently only have link to java.com. Not too familiar with Mac tbh… Sorry for ignorance, but for Mac users should this point to a different download page or do Mac users download the Java Plugin using the Software Update? (As this link implies http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp).
I have done a few hours testing on Mac (which had java already installed) and found a few issues which will be looking at soon (on ever increasing TTD list)…

Mac users get it via Software Update … and java.com will point them in the right direction.

BTW - if you have an Apple Developer Connection account there is a nice surprise available for download as of today.

you have only mentioned applets, are webstart allowed?

@swpalmer. Ok, Thanks for confirming.
@h3ckboy. Only have applets on my site… No plans to include webstart (or anyone else’s single player games) for the moment.

A few hours ago noticed there is another domain name pointing to my site/IP… (Stopped my server out of paranoia, just restarted). After googling I realized it could just be DNS error on their behalf… Anyone any experience with this? (google has indexed my website with their domain…)…Hmmm the joys of having my own website…
