Bubblomania

Hey guys!
I just joined this forum, so maybe I should mention an online game I made recently with LWJGL: Bubblomania.

The game is rather simple: you control a pin to pop the rising bubbles. Some bubbles contain special items, like lasers and bombs, which are needed to be able to pop all bubbles.

Play the game here: www.bubblomania.com.

All comments are welcome

As you know, Iā€™ve played before. I think itā€™s a great simple game with a nice look. Iā€™m not sure what your current plans are for it though.

It all works here as expected on Firefox with XP.

Iā€™m not sure anymore either. My original idea was to license the current version as a webgame to arcades etc, and make some money with advertising. But Iā€™m discovering that licensing is nearly impossible for non-Flash gamesā€¦ :frowning: (Also see this thread on indiegamer)

For advertising I need a huge amount of traffic, which is very hard to get. I submitted it to java.com a month ago, but they didnā€™t respond.

The only option left is to sell it as shareware, but currently the game is not good enough to do that. I donā€™t know if itā€™s worth it to put in the extra work required to sell it. From feedback, I have the impression that the casual audience favors a ā€˜leveledā€™ gameplay, instead of the current continuous gameplayā€¦

Any insights?

Nice idea! Plays well here on XP. The bubble animation is great.

Maybe playing with the mouse would be better?

No music?

The sound is kind of annoying :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks. I tried mouse movement, but it didnā€™t feel right. It was also annoying that mouse movement didnā€™t register when the mouse was outside the game window. Another problem is the reverse bubble: this reverses the left/right keys, but thatā€™s hard to do with mouse controlā€¦

I havenā€™t found the right music yet, and the sound fx arenā€™t really great either
@magemog: press ESC during the game to get a menu in which you can disable the sound
