Bubblomania

Hey guys!
I just joined this forum, so maybe I should mention an online game I made recently with LWJGL: Bubblomania.

The game is rather simple: you control a pin to pop the rising bubbles. Some bubbles contain special items, like lasers and bombs, which are needed to be able to pop all bubbles.

Play the game here: www.bubblomania.com.

All comments are welcome

As you know, I’ve played before. I think it’s a great simple game with a nice look. I’m not sure what your current plans are for it though.

It all works here as expected on Firefox with XP.

I’m not sure anymore either. My original idea was to license the current version as a webgame to arcades etc, and make some money with advertising. But I’m discovering that licensing is nearly impossible for non-Flash games… :frowning: (Also see this thread on indiegamer)

For advertising I need a huge amount of traffic, which is very hard to get. I submitted it to java.com a month ago, but they didn’t respond.

The only option left is to sell it as shareware, but currently the game is not good enough to do that. I don’t know if it’s worth it to put in the extra work required to sell it. From feedback, I have the impression that the casual audience favors a ā€˜leveled’ gameplay, instead of the current continuous gameplay…

Any insights?

Nice idea! Plays well here on XP. The bubble animation is great.

Maybe playing with the mouse would be better?

No music?

The sound is kind of annoying :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks. I tried mouse movement, but it didn’t feel right. It was also annoying that mouse movement didn’t register when the mouse was outside the game window. Another problem is the reverse bubble: this reverses the left/right keys, but that’s hard to do with mouse control…

I haven’t found the right music yet, and the sound fx aren’t really great either
@magemog: press ESC during the game to get a menu in which you can disable the sound
