Bruce Wheels our first Android java game!

Hi guys,

I’m a coder at Minisaur, a small team of three friends from Milan, Italy. For the last 2 years in our little spare time we’ve been working on our first happy java game, Bruce Wheels. We released it on Android and want to share it.

We will continue to develop it once it has launched and this will be heavily based on feedback and suggestions we receive. So please tell us what you think about it, it’s really important to us.

About

Bruce Wheels is a game about a hamster jumping in a wheel made of platforms. The goal is to turn the phone, let him eat all kinds of nuts and collect bonuses avoiding traps and foes. While the gameplay is really simple and easy to learn, we made it really hard to master. The game is all about getting the highest score, beat all the levels, get the achievements and be the best among your friends.

Gameplay

We are hardcore >:( gamers and we love challenges. We felt that lately the mobile market was too flooded with simple and easy games for all audiences. Really simple and relaxing casual games that you could play while laying in your bed or watching TV. We wanted to do something new! Bruce Wheels requires all the player’s attention and becomes harder and harder while progressing through the levels. While you have to turn the phone left and right, by 360 degrees or more, with one hand, with the other you have to hit the enemies, clean the screen from ink spit by an Octopus, free Bruce from all kinds of traps and carnivorous plants while blowing into the mic to extinguish some flames and… well you get the idea.

Doing all these actions at once sometimes you have to really pay attention at not throwing away your phone! We ended up thinking about possible supports to avoid this from happening and came up with some interesting “hardware” ideas

^— but this isn’t really necessary

Friends and foes

This game was mainly designed sitting in a bar, drinking some beer and coming up with silly ideas. This is also true for the characters you encounter in it. We designed so many different monsters: each of them has different abilities and requires a different strategy to be defeated or avoided.

Usually one of us would come up with things like “GUYS! We need a WIZARD in our game!” and then we would begin discussing wildly about what he should do for the rest of the evening. And after one month of designing and programming we would finally have 3 wizards: one spawning portals, one manipulating gravity and one destroying platforms… All things that took way too much time to implement.

Levels, goals and scores

Bruce Wheels is focused around 2 modes: Adventure mode and Survival mode. In the first the player has to complete a huge amount of goals to progress and unlock new objects and levels. In the latter the player has to reach the highest possible score and beat all his friends.

During the adventure mode different tutorials teach you how to interact with all the new stuff. The survival mode for a specific world unlocks only once a player has encountered all possible objects and learned how to deal with them. We currently have 6 worlds with 90 levels and 6 survival modes ready for release.

In both modes, to reach the best score you have to keep a high multiplier by continuosly hitting good stuff, avoiding empty platforms and bad stuff. If you miss one time the multiplier restarts from x1 (the highest possible multi is x10).

Finally, the game is obviously filled with (currently 60) achievements.

First concept

The first concept of the game came up 2.5 years ago. Since then we worked really hard to finally release a game we are really proud of  This is our first game and we hope you like our work.
