[you] has some great suggestions though I suspect they’re only joking for most of them.

Jeez… :emo:
PS: [you] is a bitch.
I think that using a Wiki for game tutorials would be great.
*woops read that wrong, Cas you should have just left it, I assumed you were just going along with it lol
Omg uploading Applets on JGO would be just awesome. If you don’t want to upload binary on this server (shown by the fact you don’t allow us to even upload our JPG and PNG avatars), I would be glad to host them on my server.
That’s actually pretty annoying and kinda rare, most boards allow you to upload an avatar. Even if there are restrictions like max 80x80, max 200 kb and so on, instead of resizing it itself after uploading.
Speaking as an user…
As an admin/host I think this is the best choice obviously, all avatars external and stuff: nothing to upload, format, save; no traffic for those images, etc…
I like current way, no avatar.
argh I can’t still get used with ppl shouting “my name”, maybe I should change it
I really like the screenshot gallery idea. I’m a sucker for the shiny ;D
p.s. Now I REALLY want to know what ChrisM posted.
As developers, engineers and inventors, we’re often inclined to “create it ourselves” rather than take the time to learn other people’s tools and creations. But if the tools are right here with the creators at hand to answer silly questions, it might be easier to take advantage of all the nifty stuff people here already created.
So I definitely support the suggestion to upload Applets, but also the possibility to launch WebStart applications (and of course games) from JGO. Some kind of moderation process on such uploads would possibly be advantageous, to avoid the usual clutter that comes with these ideas.
I like this thread, since It says I’m awesome
Man this threw me for a loop. I thought I was being picked on.
This might seem controversial, but I honestly would suggest moving away from Java-only games and onwards towards being a gaming community. We will always have our Java roots but I come here for the community, but I come here for the people and the general game talk. I very rarely program in Java any more, so I can’t ever show anything on the showcase. Kinda sucks.
I also think trying to slowly add features to make us more of a destination and less of a tech forum will be great for attracting artists and more exposure in the long run.
If you fell for it, the best way to recover is to pick on someone else. :point:
[you] should tell me who I should be picking on.
I didn’t have an account, so I fell for it in a different way. Knew it was a joke, but thought it was calling out all the people who lurk on JGO, but don’t make an account.
Me too.

Hate to be the party pooper, but I love that JGO is java only.
Yeh, I agree. I think we are hardly the only game related community out there, so it’s nice to have a special focus.
When I began making games in java some years ago a lot of people were shaking their heads at me, so it was nice to find a forum dedicated to the cause.
The forum also seems to be quite large already, so one could fear it would require some sort of compression that would take focus from the many less mainstreame sub-forums / topics.
Nah, I totally understand that perspective. If we did move away from Java I would think that it would need to be a very gradual process. But think how great a place JGO could be if it became a destination for fledgling indie devs of all kinds - that’s sort of what I’m envisioning. And I know there are already places like that, but I’m a member of this forum so of course I can dream.
I know this is a brainstorm, which usually involves keeping a very open mind, only narrowing down on ideas in a later stage, but seriously, this is JGO: JavaGaming.org. No matter what your personal preference is (and I respect your personal preference), this site will never be about anything else than java gaming, and that’s were we focus our efforts. If that means it will die in the long run, then so be it. Let’s just make sure this doesn’t happen, as we’re (slowly but steadily) producing more and more: both in quality and in quantity.
