zlandorf, just edit that out, cause there is no need for ppl to know ;). more funny that way
Suggestions:
-
Anything that encourages more feedback in the Showcase section would be good. (Auto-award of medals maybe, but that would be easy to abuse.) I reckon other game developers are as needy as I am (especially [you]
).
-
Find a popular ‘pixel art’ forum and offer to host it. Then - you know, for efficiency reasons - gradually merge it with JGO. (If that tactic works for big companies…)
Simon
Since so many have suggested it, i have been asked to write a post on behalf of [you]:
This seems like really good ideas, well at least the first one XD
A bit more focus could probably be put on the actual games and gameplay, where as now it seems it’s all about programming (which of course should always be the main focus, due to the name of the forum).
- Scarzzurs on behalf of [you]
Okay first thing is I would like my project added to the resources page: https://github.com/AllBinary/AllBinary-Platform
More Info: https://www.ohloh.net/p/AllBinary-Platform (2.7+ million dollars and 50 man years of work it says, but as far as I am concerned it is 0 until someone give me that much or I finish my self replicating robot army)
That is about 1/3 of my code, but most of what will be opened up. I will eventually explain it all with tutorials, binaries, and such.
I have 10 games that I am working on now, and the continued opening up of my AllBinary Platform so I am not sure what my name is much less what else should change.
Personally, I would just leave it alone and focus on attracting more developers.
A revolution in Java gaming is about to happen. How can JGO benefit from the coming Robot Army Revolution? Well hell if I know, but you might add another site for RTS game integration for Java 3D printing, robots, and resource collection. Something like java-rts-game-programming-for-real.com would be stupid, but I am sure you will think of something.
You enter a topic, and see a dozen people all talking about ‘you’. It doesn’t make me feel very welcome, even if it is auto-generated.
I’m trying to think of some cunning post that will turn the tables on the joke and make me look like a total genius but unfortunately I can’t figure out something witty to say
Cas
That was fun
Don’t worry, I think most of us had already written some sorts of reply before realizing there was something funky about this thread.
Now the joke is on Riven, people don’t want to post their opinions because they don’t want to look like self-eccentric fools
But I am a self-centred fool!
Here’s a suggestion then: How’s about we all have a whip-round to get Excelsior to port JET to ARM architectures? Apparently it’ll take a low five-figure dolloar sum to pay for it. We could have like a Blue Peter appeal on the front page at the top
Cas
A five figure sum? I’d love for it to reach te ARM architectures!
That doesn’t seem all that difficult? Why don’t we all just throw in 1-2 weeks full time of contribution and be done with it in a month?
If you want a serious suggestion, I think more should be done to move JGO into being a game development site, rather then just a forum. One of the main features would be being able to upload Java applets. I would predict lots of users would like to see this.
If your really worried about security, then host them on a separate domain, and that will prevent cross-domain attacks (like stealing cookies via JavaScript). You could also place them behind a “you are being redirected to someone’s game, you are trying it at your own risk” message, between clicking to play and the applet it self. If that’s too OTT, then it could be toned down in the future.
You could then do funky stuff like listing people’s games in their signatures. It would allow users here a place to showcase their work, and a way to share it with others. You could also place JGO advertising around the applet, for any non-JGO users playing them.
A second idea, add some sort of a ‘points’ system. You get points when you upload non-topic content, such as articles, games, helpful links, etc. It is not related to post count. This would also be visible next to everyone’s name. I saw this very features added to a different forum I visit, and over night the amount of content they had posted tripled (and literally over night).
ha, reaching a 5 figure sum from donations alone is gonna take a while
Anyway, has anyone tried LLVM? last i heard its Java support is getting pretty good.
There is also XMLVM, which will just translate your Java code to Objective-C.
Either way my answer’s no, but what do you mean? VMKit? or Shark/Zero?
Ah sorry 6 figure sum not 5. I think something around the $125k mark.
All other Java on ARM solutions are an utter waste of time. Exception being Sun’s embedded Java 6 runtime which is awesome. But pointlessly unavailable for general use.
Cas
VMKit with AOT compilation.
Uh, what the …? I just found this thread. Why am I the main character here?!
Okay then, uh, I’m honored to be a valued member of JGO, but, uh, I haven’t even posted a single complete game and I just ramble on in my completely bloated answers…
And my opinion: As everyone is behind whatever I say, I think it’s time for some changes here. First of all: We need more maids. Everyone loves maids. I would go to maid cafe’s every day if it wasn’t so expensive. Secondly, I’ve heard my epic godlike super friends talk about the cloud, but I think we can do better: CloudS. I have already crafted a master plan for this. Together with Tesla’s wireless electricity using electromagnetism, JGO can become the first forum in the cloudS! Here is a carefully designed image featuring a step-by-step manual for my master plan. I publish it here in good faith that you all help me realize this unique one-in-a-million-years idea, and not claim this idea as your own!

It’s foolproof! Together we can attain ThE cLoUdS. This will be an industry first, meaning we will attract hordes of soon-to-be Java programmers from other forums due to our insanely modern server layout!
As a valued member of JGO, I will not see this plan fail. We DESERVE this. This is our DUTY. Our goal in LIFE. Together we shall attain ThE cLoUdS.
Uh. I just got a message at the top of my IRL line of sight, saying: “You feel insane.”. Guys, is this real life?
For an idea that is slightly easier to implement I would agree that a Wiki would be nice. I’ve seen a lot of good code and solutions to problems appear in various threads, and it’s a shame that they practically disappear after a while as people don’t use the search function (It’s also hard to find related stuff if you just use different wording). Therefore I propose an (unwritten?) rule that people should after finding a solution to their problem create a small Wiki-article or expand a related article with whatever the thread was about and what was found optimal, etc. Of course, moderation would be hard, but I think it would work. =S
It’s fake, everyone sees the name they are logged in with. They are using a placeholder tag.
Access this thread while not being logged in and you’ll see. Riven did this in his signature before.
I don’t even like Applets and I think its a good idea. Also tutorials and stuff.
If we power the JGO server with solar panels, and use wireless communication, we can float the JGO server into the clouds! What a great idea.
