Brain wave input

Is there any sort of API or hardware in development that would allow one to provide input to a Java application using brain waves or other biometric data? I’ve seen a few primitive devices in occasional articles, (BrainFIngers comes to mind), but nothing big. I’d think that this would be a big area of research.

I’m asking mainly because all the sitting I do to program is giving me some serious joint pain, and I would love to write all my programs in NetBeans simply by thinking the keyboard and mouse movements. I could be standing up or lying down, or anything else. I imagine other folks would have other reasons to like such technology.

But I’ve yet to hear of any devices that have left the research lab. Is this a major new area in computer development, or is this still science ficiton?

That would be awesome, then you could take it one step further and figure out a way to create brain wave input and give the user the experience of actually walking through a virtual world, where you would be able to feel the breeze, and feel the weight of the gun in your hand, and smell the dead corpses…

Sorry, back on topic. Something you might want to consider would be buying a microphone and some speech-recognition software. They’re priced pretty reasonably, and it learns your voice pretty quick. I have one but I don’t use it much on account of that I still live with my parents and they’d think I was crazy.

How this for an input device:

you could use this while lying down in bed. It’s someone’s PHD project though, not in the shops!

Definitely science fiction.

Best experimental systems, with the highest trained users, type 15 words a minute. (And thats brand new research, previous systems were 3 to 5.)

Something people dont realize when looking at this sort of thing is that it is hardly “mind reading”. It is recognition of specific states of nuerons that peopel have to train and cocentrate on to be able to create.

If your back is bothering you, get an ergonomic chair or one of those standing computer stations. You will be a LOT happier.

Try using something called a mousetrapper.

I have a serious case of mouse injury but with this i can still work with no problems. I really saved my programming-life.

Remember to use the “classic” model as the others are not good imo.

Heres the link sorry I couldnt find an english site.

Okay, whats the language sow e cna use babelfish?

.dk, so I would assume it’s Danish.
but google will come up with this:

And I don’t believe it’s a solution for a sore back ::slight_smile:

Here are some suggestions…
