BouncyBall

Got bored trying to draw trees for my rally game and did what I always end up doing, starting a new game.

Pretty simple, place blocks to bounce the ball into the glass. Level editor keys are PageUp/PageDown to switch levels, arrow keys to change the number of player blocks.
Levels are saved to .bouncyball/levels.xml in your home directory. I quickly knocked together 5 levels (pretty untested so probably better solutions than mine).

Hi!

Don’t forget to add your game into the Java Game Tome if you want.

On the other hand, it’s curious. You start a new game when you’re fed up with improving the previous one whereas I never give up, I have developed TUER since October 2006 even though many people say it is a big shit.

Good luck, keep it up.

I understand where he’s coming from. Sometimes you just need a break, and a nice short project can be wonderful for that.

You’re in need of a pat on the back or so? ::slight_smile:

Hey this game was cool!
I fear level design will take a lot of playtesting time if you want only a few possible solutions. On the other hand I found the multiple solutions pretty interesting…

There’s a trick to employ in this game, and that is that you don’t have to put out all your blocks before you start the balls movements. I usually see where it goes and if it winds up somewhere after a bounce but where it initially would’ve blocked it before the bounce, I add it in real time afterwards.

I wish I’ll learn how to make such a game later on… just starting to learn java and it’s a major PITA to suffocate all great game ideas to look at code and trying to understand it instead.

I noticed this slight flaw myself, never got round to plugging it. I don’t think I will develop this game any further as I have already started on a new one. I did have grand plans for all sorts of special blocks that shoot the ball or dampen it’s bouncing as well dynamic levels with switches and trap doors etc. I used to be quite disappointed at my inability to complete a game but every new game I start I tend to get further so I am getting better. Also I really like starting new games and at the end of the day that is what this hobby is about, fun.
I have bits and pieces of about 20+ games lying around right now and it’s getting quite easy to just pull bits together and get a new concept up and running in a weekend.

No, thanks. I prefer looking at my figures that show some people playing with my game daily.
