Bouncing a game idea around.

So I was thinking of a game idea, and I wanted to get some other input before I dive too deep into the project.

The Idea:
I was invisioning a top-down shooter where players could play matches against combinations of other players and automated players in order to level up statistics and further their battling abilities. There would in the overall game possibly be more use for statistics and battles, but this is the concept so far.

I would appreciate input from other people, as I want to know:

  • if the idea is worth pursuing
  • if there is anything I can add to the idea

Please reply with any comments or suggestions!

Have you had a look at Daedalus? It fits pretty well with the idea you’re describing.

No offense, but it seems like your classic topdown shooter.

I agree; it doesn’t sound like a compelling game. Or it might have sounded compelling if I couldn’t think of another 10 games that also sound like it.

Well I’m glad I posted the idea. I will spend the next few days making the idea actually unique and then I will post it back on this thread

Describing a game and asking some random people on the internet what they think is a bit fruitless, IMHO.

The important thing is: does this sound like a fun game to you? Does it sound fun to program this game?

Have fun with it, create a little playable demo, and then ask for feedback on the demo.

Ideas are cheap, and opinions on ideas are even cheaper. The hard part is sitting down and programming the darn thing.

I feel the same way.

Over the years I have come up with tons of different game ideas but never truly pursued them. A lot of them I just gave up on without really programming them and seeing what I thought of the product.

At first, just an idea might sound dumb or even sound amazing, however until its actually made into some type of product (e.x. a functioning game) there is no way to tell how “good” it really is.

First test FAIL!

If you can be discouraged by forum posters then the problem is not with your GAME but your RESOLVE!

In case this was referring to me, I was far from discouraged (in my opinion :P). I simply took another look at the game concept, tightened down some details, and got back to work

If it wasn’t referring to me, then carry on.

You passed, then
