Hey All,

I’ve put together a simple game. It’s a clone of a mini game found in New Super Mario Bros for the DS. It was just an excuse to flex my coding muscles on topics that relate to a full sized game, without having to get too distracted with game design.

I’m pretty happy with it. There are a couple minor bugs, almost no sound (just one sound effect) and I have ideas to make the game more interesting. But I think it’s served it’s purpose very well. Admittedly, this game is a lot more fun with a stylus than a mouse.

Let me know what you think. I’ve only tested the webstart on Mac OSX, I’m curious if Linux or Win32 people have any trouble.

Worked for about the first 30-40 bombs, locked up then.

Nice presentation, good graphics (home grown?). Found the game a bit meh though, this is on the DS at the moment?

Yeah the game is pretty meh. It’s a lot more fun with a stylus. It’s on the DS, but it’s just a minigame for Super Mario Bros. It’s very addictive on the DS, the mouse really changes the feel.

But like I said, I wasn’t exactly trying to win any gameplay awards here :slight_smile: Just basically using this as a testbed to enhance and round out my engine. I’ll dive into something real next.

Mouse gameplay and cursor menu?

The menu should either support both input methods or at least the input method of the game itself. At my first run the menu behaved very odd, too. Had to up/down a while until it finally decided to highlight “play”.

And yea the game is very meh, but the graphics are pretty nice.

nice remake! i’ve played that game. you’ve done a great job with it, it’s not your fault the mouse changes the feel of the game. the stylus is more fun because its so slippery.

with your mario spirit, you should consider entering the Super Mario Programming Contest… it has about half a month left! :wink:

Yeah, I know. I probably should have reworked that before posting. I agree. If this was someone elses game I’d complain about that too.

I like the Mario contest, but I’m afraid I got word of it a bit late. I doubt I could whip up anything worthy in that much time with my current schedule. If there is a second Mario contest, I’m all over it :slight_smile:
