Bob's Game

So Bob wants to write a game. He spends the next 15,000 hours writing the story, placing the pixels, composing the music, and developing the C code. Now Nintendo won’t send him the devkit to officially publish his game to the DS.

What does Bob do? He stages a one-hundred day webcam sit-in in which he does nothing but port his game to Android, iPhone, and OpenPandora platforms:

“I grew up with a Game Boy, a childhood spent buried in a magical box with ugly green graphics. At last, I am this wizard- this sorcery is mine now.”

What really disturbs me is, that in his first demo video of the game, where he shows one month of programming in fast forward, he seems to be naked all the time… :o

Yeah, I noticed that. Maybe the creative process works better that way

Cas

The game looks pretty impressive, but really this guy is nothing special and he has absolutely no marketing/communication skills (big surprise?). Just read his site. He repeatedly states that he has created this revolutionary experience which is the best game ever, all the while badmouthing Nintendo repeatedly. And not playful badmouthing, but hardcore badmouthing. What can Nintendo gain by sending the dev kit? Not much. What can it lose? Not much. Either way this guy will make a very little dent in Nintendo’s operations, so if he’s being a dick I’m not at all surprised they won’t do business with him.

But seriously. An RPG has to be the easiest type of game to make (in terms of programmatic difficulty), and instead just takes a ton of time. If you’re willing to spend 15,000 hours on a game / 100 days locked in a room, then any decent programmer could make a full-fledged RPG. I started one as my first real project 5 or so years ago, and I stopped when I realized the horrendous amount of content I needed. Plus I got bored. They’re easy, but they take a while.

I especially don’t think he should admit that he learned how to make it as he went, because typically that means that thing is going to be unwieldy and personally it puts a vision of the typical amateur “ZOMG I’M GONNA MAKE A MMORPG AND GET RICH” in my head. And what the crap is with him bowing at the end of the trailer? That’s not a trailer, it’s internet masturbation.

Okay I’m done. :stuck_out_tongue:

What’s he doing to do when he gets the development kit anyway, manually do the production of the cartridges? He would be far better off just teaming up with some existing publisher, but he seems to be completely egocentric.

And the appearance of the website is just scary.

It does look a little too much like Time Cube Guy’s website to be entirely sane. :persecutioncomplex:

But I have to admit that it does look like an impressive game, especially for one person to maintain interest for such a long time.

But he’s got Harmonic Cubic Wisdom! He says: “Without Financial Support, I May Shut Down”
If only Woolworths had had such wisdom, we could still buy cheap socks today!

Wow. That time cube guy is nuts.
