Board of Directors

If you didn’t vote ‘Yes’, please post ideas on how the situation can be improved.

I decline to vote. I’m not currently aware of them at all, and don’t think they’ve been running long enough to have had any real impact thus far. Later this month should be the third meeting, so maybe we’ll begin to see exciting new things happening.

(Oh, request: please add an abstain option to all polls - there’s no way of me knowing how people are voting without submitting a duff vote or logging off, neither of which I’m keen to do! ;D)

Abstained. I’m waiting to see what crazy stuff they’ll come up with for JavaOne.

Based on the last minutes posted
http://www.java-gaming.org/cgi-bin/JGNetForums/YaBB.cgi?board=GTG;action=display;num=1083348189

I think the board is 4 members (right?) yet only 2 attended the last meeting.

Greg (Pierce) was to make a games catelog page… seems that Blah^3 is the one who actually did this.

Things like promoting the Wiki and such were never followed through.

As far as coming up with stuff for Java One - that doesn’t even appear to be on their agenda.

Keep in mind “The Board” is not “The Games Technology Group”

The board was formed specifically to support this community if I recall correctly.

I should point out that I didn’t start this poll to bash the board. But to get community input on how they can better serve the community and give them some sort of feedback. I hope that they see this thread and contribute to the discussion.

FYI, as soon as I saw those minutes (which weren’t published until a long time after the meeting) I contacted GP about this.

We managed a couple of emails (he was very busy at the time) about collaborating and it ended up hanging waiting for the next response from him, which IIRC was about 3 weeks ago.

It seems to me that - the way things are right now - it’s best if GP doesn’t bother with this, so long as JGF exists it appears to be serving that need adequately well (and soon, maybe, much more than that, depending upon how things go). To be honest, having thought about it over the past few months, I reckon it’s a waste of time for the GTG to attempt to do this in their current form - to do it much better than JGF is now requires considerable money and some staff, which is something that would have to come from somewhere else in Sun if I understand things correclty (unless the GTG is about to change it’s structure / budget / mandate).

That’s cool… so long as somebody gets it done - which it has.

Greg seemed quite busy the last time I chatted with him as well. I don’t mean to suggest that any one person is ignoring things or something… I know full well how free time fluctuates… it’s just that if somebody doesn’t have time for something there is a community here that can help out. As you have done in this case. All the board has to do is find the time to poke us or themselves with a stick to keep things moving - and make it clear what direction we are supposed to be moving in.
