Blue Fiend Community Project?

Since Blue Fiend is already open sourced how would anyone feel about making it a community project? adding power-ups, making it like 10 bosses long, adding sound. I’d be willing to give let JG do what they would with it, as long as they link to the original game (on my site) on the page they host it and all that stuff.

no, I am not interersted.

No one seems to be, so I’m going to withdraw the offer.

It is a good idea, don’t give up, it would improve the potential interest of your game for casual users.

However, it would be better if your game required less resource to work (I don’t have 3 Ghz).

Its only been 1 day…
But really for a small game you only need 1 programmer. But you could try get other people to help in the area of art and sound.

I think its a nice idea, I wouldn’t mind helping out actually, whenever I have some spare time.

When you say you would be willing to let JG do whatever they want more or less, are you saying that you won’t be working on it any more or will you be leading the work? Would someone else have to pick up the project and make a site for it and all that?

sry let me clarify, it has nothing to do with you or the game, I just hate building off of what other people write.

I saw your source code, you code completely differently than I do. So I would basicly be figuring out how you did it, which would take a while, or re-writing it.

Yeah, I’m going to be too busy with new new platformer to work on Blue Fiend for a while. Offer Reopened.

Fair enough, I would lend a helping hand but I don’t have time to manage a projects I’m afraid. If anyone else picks this up though and wants so help, just ask. Might be nice with a conversion to OpenGL

Normally this is a great idea

however I am not interested in this particular project

But only because of the genre… nothing against the game itself =)

In this case, starting over from scratch seems to be a better idea.

Just a question like that, do you prefer to make the gameplay of your game or the graphics?

Alright here is a proposition.

Since February I’m doing a small 2D game engine. In it’s current state I could remake bluefiend (only the gameplay) in a very short amount of time. All the problems (performance, mouse aiming) would be fix.

The gotcha is that I’m not very interested about the graphics aspect so you would need to do it.

My engine is a kind of binding above Slick. If you want an idea of it’s capabilities, I just made a Space Defense demo and the game runs fine up to 1000 enemy moving toward the ships. So I basically update the position of over 1000 circles, checking for collision for each of them and rendering them with like 40-50 fps. And, I’m running that on my laptop (pentium 4 - 2.66Ghz).

If I’m not doing any rendering I can go up to 3000 circles.

So, I can surely make Bluefiend and it would run fast.

Sounds good, but what do you mean by graphics? Would this new version of Blue Fiend use sprites instead of vector art?

Here is a screenshot of my demo. It should explain everything

EDIT : Image doesn’t seems to work here is a link : http://www.gudradain.byethost12.com/SpaceDefenseScreenshot.html

Ah, alright than. Sounds good.

Do you see an image in this post because there is suppose to be one and I don’t see it.

hey, this will be a big step for gameCreator.

Hope so. I’m really happy about the performance currently but I got to make sure my structure is correct for complete game (meaning with graphics and sound).

only one way to know, TRY IT!
