Block-Warefare (new original concept showcase)

Block-Warefare is a new experimental game, based off a new original concept. The game is played by placing three (3) “pieces” on a frame in strategic areas where the bouncing ball won’t reach. Players are scored on how long they can survive with their saves recorded so they can aim to beat it.

Please note I’m a 14 year old java app developer so don’t expect the best.

Features:

Fun, unique game-play from a new fresh genre.
Basic graphics.
Saving supported.
Lot’s of bugs. (I’d appreciate bug reports).

Enjoy this release and promise not to copy by downloading! Download: https://www.dropbox.com/s/hw736dz6o71e396/BlockWarefareV5.jar?dl=0

Please provide your feedback on anything you like in the game, ideas and support.

The concept is good. However I came across a few bugs:

Clicking and dragging the squares seems really awkward. What I mean is most of the time it doesn’t actually get grabbed, or after moving it I am not able to move it again. Also, if I move it and leave it in the “tray” where the blocks start it will get stuck in there. The ball will never hit the blocks and I can “win” this infinite game.

For a 14 year old with just under a year of Java experience, this is a good learning tool. It’s a simple game but in the future you can learn from it and create even better games. I’m a 14 year old developer too. My first game was pretty crappy but even if I didn’t finish any of my games (still haven’t for the last 4 years :P) each one gets better and better as I learn.

Good luck on your Java adventure! ;D

Good that you’re learning!! I hope you continue posting as you update the game

Some suggestions
-Search if it’s possible to write/read to files inside of the jar
!-Tell user how much time they have
!-Fix dragging of blocks, I drag one out, click to drag another, first one gets dragged instead, also half the time the block won’t respond till the 3rd/4th drag
-Separate blocks - So that it shows three distinct blocks in the safe zone, instead of a pile
-Different types of blocks

Biggest one I think is to make dragging blocks smoother.
edit: It’s really hard to play when dragging the blocks is hard

I just want to say, don’t limit yourself by saying you’re 14. Be proud of what you made and realize that you know A LOT more about programming and game development than most people your age and that this skill you’re learning is a great one. Seriously, keep programming no matter what. You’ll look back in a couple years and feel very good about having the discipline to do something like this for awhile.
