Blobbit Dash (Win/OSX/Linux)

Poor Blobbit.

As if he’s got nothing better to do than rescue Blobbit Babies from the marauding Vernimb, never mind avoid Count Grabula and his incredible detachable head!

Blobbit Dash is an original game that’s fun to play when you’ve five minutes spare. Wonderful bright colour graphics, cute sound effects and a soundtrack that you’ll be humming for days.

Move Blobbit around the screen using the arrow keys. Pressing Enter selects menu options and P pauses the game.

You can play a demo online and purchase the full downloadable version - complete with Mac OSX Dashboard widget - from Blobbit.com. You can also download a demo widget in the Widgets section of the Cheeky web site.

Blobbit Dash is the first in a series of Blobbit games which I hope will appeal to a wide audience - particularly on Mobile - where you just want a quick go of something while you’re waiting for the bus.

It’s always a struggle to write simple games, in knowing when to stop - the temptation is to keep adding features, enemies, graphics, but in the end you just detract from the simple toy that inspired you in the first place.

Dash hasn’t got 3D, lots of things happening on the screen, a tie-in with a big brand, it’s just simple, down-to-earth fun.

I hope you enjoy it.

Very well done!! Good job!

Great little game - I really like the graphics and simple idea. Nice work!

If java is disabled you only get a black screen (you can add stuff to the applet tag, which is shown if java isnt available… and you can also use the object tag instead). There are also no screenshots etc on the page. There is also no directly visible price tag and the download size for the online version could be there, too.

The graphics are very neat. Since the gameplay isnt really my cup of tea, I wont comment on that… just one thing… If I press up and left (or any other diagonal direction) the horizontal one gets preference and the other one gets ignored. Thats a bit counter intuitive. You could for example override the current direction with the new one.

It would be also nice if the menu would support mouse input, too.

Thanks for the feedback

I need to do a better page that shows screenshots, some dialogue, a price tag and explain exactly what you get when you part with your cash.

I’ll have a look at the keyboard code, too - odd, that…

works fine on MacOs X.3 java 1.4.2

It’s not my kind of game, but here are some first thoughts …

I think restarting after the first death is too hard for the player. At least one spare life should be added.

You could also give the full 3 lives, but limit the number of levels playable in the demo version (may be it’s the case, but I didn’t get too far in the game)

Right now, I think the difficulty level is a little too high to start “getting addicted” by the game. especially when you have to restart everything to try and see more levels.

In your nag screen (or into the web site), you should add some hints on how the game evolves (kinds of levels, new stuff to grab ?, objects to avoid ?). May be screenshots would be enough. Right now, I just feel like the game will be too repetitive (not much diversity in the first levels) to buy it. some potential buyers might think the same as me…

I think the 9 € price tag is a little too high right now with respect to the first levels played, but I might change of mind with more screenshots…

Great sound design by the way !

That’s a bit better…a little more friendly anyway!

Pricetag now $8 - that’s five pounds in proper money

i’m not intending to offend, but imho 1€ is a high price for a game like this, considering the free games you can find with a google search.

All of these First Person Shooters are free and they all have pretty high production values and lots of game play and took tons of work to develop - but that doesn’t stop people from charging $19.95 for games like this - which have made millions of dollars.

Business isn’t about pricing for what something’s worth, it’s about pricing at what people will pay for it.

Oooh, I never come in this bit of the forum any more because it’s so fiddly and annoying but I’m glad I did! Blobbit’s just great!! Can we have a go selling it from Puppygames’ site and see how it does?

Cas

Don’t misunderstand me, it’s great that we can sell games like that, in fact, i’m thinking on making some games on my own and upload them so people can play them for a litle price instead of ofering them for free and making their source avaliable, i realy need the money, and i haven’t count on this option before because i thought that you have to develop a top-tech masterpiece to make a buck.

Im not saying that any of those games lack tech, most of them are way more complex than i could understand it’s just that the

thing is not what you imagine at first, but i guess that’s the business (not only gaming, but all software) and i’ll have to get used to it if i don’t want to end pluging printers in an office to earn a life.

sorry if i’ve been fiddly or annoying, i was not my intention :frowning:

I think 8$ is ok for this game…i could get 2 bottles of cocacola(0.5litre) for that… I have myself been thinking about making small tiny games and sell, and when i thought about
the price i was thinking about the same as any ordinary item people buy everyday…like a Hamburger and a coke in the local store, that would be like 10$.
