Bit Siege - 2D Competitive Multiplayer PvP Game. (Patch v2.1 out now!)

This is in Alpha. All these features are coming.

Bots are literally coming next patch. Every playlist will be removed besides 4v4, and bots will replaced out with players as they join / leave.

If your friends don’t want to play the game because of the graphics, then I’m glad your friends aren’t playing my game, I prefer not to bring people into my community who are “wow diz game got sh1t gfx not lik1e call uf duewty AAAAz gfxxx, gamez gutta suk”. The graphics may receive small upgrades eventually, but nothing major. The characters are 8x16 now, and I may upgrade them to 16x16 and detail them more, but no such graphical upgrade like 64x64 or 128x128 sprites will ever ocur. Sounds will be NES like as well. The overall style is very retro, and has been the plan for the game since the very start.

Why did you tell him to use CMD? Open with would of been a lot easier ;).

You didn’t get me with the graphics. My friends really do like retro games, but theres difference between good pixel art and a bad one. Now im not saying yours is bad, im just saying it needs more work :slight_smile: It’s just a opinion, it can vary from person to person. And that opinion is that this game is one of the best at JGO(State of Fortune FTW).
I can’t wait until i can play this game.

The game looks nice, but why don’t you make the “bullets”/“Abilities” go 360 degrees instead locking them to 0,90,180 and 270. I think it would be better and more fun. Maybe?

This has been talked about many times.

The reason is simply skill. It takes a lot more skill and coordination and keyboard control to properly set yourself up and lock your position in and fight rather than to just hold WASD and hold down your left click in whatever direction the person is in and just destroy them entirely.

Having to properly face the right direction has a skill level, trust me :P.

It may feel clunky and such at first, but you’ll get used to it as all the other players have :).

As for the art, I’ve had people tell me its very amateury and nooby, while others have told me they are in love with the art.

My personal opinion and what will happen with the art in the game? It could use improvements. It will be improved upon for sure, but the overall retro bitty style will remain.

You should add transition tiles, so it the corners are smoother. Also the rocks need a change.
For the rest it looks just fine.

  • Bots have been added! With this addition, there is now only a “Find Game” button. To play, simply click Find Game, if no games are available then you will automatically begin hosting one.

  • Decay timer has been upped to 10 seconds from 2.

  • Fixed a bug where very rarely the game instance would be created twice, resulting in a blue flickering screen that had double the game loop speed.

  • Fixed a bug where on some computers when players were stunned, they weren’t appearing white as they should.

  • Fixed crystal bug where if more than one person touched the crystal while it was destroyed, everyone touching it would get slowed as if they had the crystal, but only one person actually technically had the crystal.

  • Health no longer will go below 0, this didn’t effect gameplay but was more of a visual thing.

  • Void Lord’s black hole ultimate no longer sucks in team mates.

  • All Menus redone.

  • Game has shrunk from 2.5mb to 368kb.

---------------------New Additions-----------------------

  • Skins have been added! Choose them from the class select menu! Simply press the arrows to cycle through skins.

  • Slows have been added! There were only stuns and blinds as forms of CC, now there are slows.

  • You can now spectate your team mates while you’re dead! Simply left click while you are dead to cycle spectating through your team mates.

  • Added rendering layers with abilities so that certain abilities always render on top of others. A problem for example was with Cleric heal covering up/hiding a lot of abilities.

– Added new class: Water Queen

Spell 1 - Tidal Wave: Damages all enemies the wave passes through for 50 damage.
Cooldown: 5 seconds.

Spell 2 - Water Blast: Damages enemy for 20 damage and slows them by 0.5 for 2.0 seconds.
Cooldown: 11 seconds.

Spell 3 - Absorb: Absorbs all damage taken for 2.5 seconds and heals self for 3 health per hit taken.
Cooldown: 24 seconds.

Spell 4 - Water Walk: Allows walking on water for 20 seconds and heals 5 health per second on water. When the timer runs out you take 10 damage per second until your off the water.
Cooldown: 90 seconds.


--------------------Gameplay Changes---------------------

  • Win amount reduced to 300 from 400.

  • Player health orbs dropped upon death are now removed after 20 seconds.

  • Bots now are smarter to choose which crystal holder to capture the crystal in when they have the crystal.

  • Warlock Storm duration reduced to 10 seconds from 17.

  • Warlock Storm damage decreased to 4 from 6 (per storm bit).

  • Warlock Storm cooldown increased to 95 seconds from 60.

  • Warlock health/max-health lowered to 300 from 350.

  • Voidlord AOE Void Scream damage increased from 90 over 6 seconds to 135 over 6 seconds.

  • Voidlord Portal ultimate cooldown increased to 75 seconds from 60.

  • Cleric healing auto attacks movespeed increased to 3.5 from 2.9.

  • Archer fire arrow distance has been lowered and now is destroyed after 3 seconds from 8 seconds.

  • Middle river now has a small bridge going over it.


------------------------Bug Fixes------------------------

  • Fixed a bug where sometimes abilities weren’t being removed on the client side randomly (so it’d appear to hit someone and just continue to go through them, even though damage etc was being dealt as normal).

  • Fixed a bug where if a real player left through the escape menu hitting the leave game button instead of closing with the game windows X button, it took several seconds to actually disconnect them from the game.

  • Fixed a bug with team placement where sometimes real players would be placed on the same team instead of the opposing team, sometimes resulting in one team being nothing but bots.

  • Fixed another bug with the bots where instead of the game freezing (which was fixed in last hotfix patch) the game would lag for a little bit. (This actually only happened ONE TIME out of 15 games but I found the root of the problem so it shouldn’t happen ever now).

  • Fixed a bug with bots getting stuck on corners sometimes.

  • Fixed a bug with bots attacking enemy sub crystals. If the enemy had more than 1 crystal captured, the bots would destroy a captured crystal, but continue attacking the destroyed crystal instead of repathing to the new holder that had a crystal in it.

  • Fixed a bug where you had to be connected to the internet for the menus to even appear. (You can now select single player if you aren’t connected to the internet).

  • Fixed a bug with the Illusionist where her swap wasn’t working properly.

  • Fixed a bug where a bot leaving message would take priority over a real player joining.

  • Fixed a bug with the Voidlords pull ability not destroying when pulling to team mates.

  • Fixed a bug with the Voidlords pull ability sometimes getting Voidlord players and Voidlord bots stuck in the wall.

  • Fixed a bug with the Voidlords pull ability pulling to dead players.

  • Fixed a bug with the Voidlords invisibility where if you casted it before the game started it wasn’t reset on game start.

  • Fixed a bug with the chat where if an ally typed in all chat it would appear red on the chat notification as if it was an enemy.


----------------------Misc Changes-----------------------

  • Art changed for the castle walls and door entrance tiles.

  • Water tiles changed, water now also has an animation.

  • Flower generation has been turned down significantly. There will be less flowers now, it was a bit “cluttered” looking before and the less flowers compliments the new castle art pretty well.

I like how this game is going! I can see myself playing with my friends very soon :D. I kind of wish the art style on the video thumbnail was in the game, though. The game’s art as a whole seems lacking in shading and detail; it all looks very flat. I think if you took some time to work on game juice and art, it’d make the gameplay much more responsive and smooth. Even just adding some screenshake, camera panning, hit pauses, etc. would make it feel better. Vlambeer did a good video on this, one I’d recommend you watch. Although if you want to focus on the gameplay instead that’s just as good, just keep these in the back of your mind.

Thanks for the feedback man! The art in the video thumbnail, plus other concept arts will be in patch 2.2 :). I’m redoing the menus completely, as right now they are bland.

Hit pauses (if I’m thinking of them the way you are, like you’re invincible for 0.5 of a second or something) would vastly change gameplay so I’m unable to do that. I’m thinking I can do screen shake on stuns or something, because constant screen shaking would be pretty annoying.

I get what you mean for sure though about game juice etc. I feel like the core of the game is pretty solid now, and I can begin working on art. Currently as you said, some things are pretty flat etc, and boring looking. I plan on making each little buff zone have its own area, and really making the map look super diverse everywhere instead of grass grass grass grasssss with some grass.

I’ve seen that video by Vlambeer already, by the way, but it is such an excellent video and eye opener for sure.

By hit pause, I didn’t mean invincibility. I mean delay the rendering for a few milliseconds after each hit to make damage more impactful.
