So I thought there was only 1 map when I first tried it out and the only map was the terrist one. I didn’t realize that you had a map editor and stuff. So if it was the only map, then I would suggest getting rid of it; however, its not so I withdraw my earlier post.
This game is really fun.
Maybe MP maps should last until there is only one team left that has at least one player.
Is the map size physically limited to 10k units or was this chosen radomly by the developer?
How do I connect to a local server to try it out? I’m behind a firewall so can’t connect to the real servers.
hey lamster i like these maps with more than two teams on it but in the current state of the game it isn’t that useful. what do you think about this approach:
when maps have more than 2 bases the game goes risk-style (you know that board game?). One team can only win by accomplishing their tasks, which can be done by destroying another teams base and (and thats the funny thing) preventing another team to get destroyed. to make things even funnier the server randomizes each team’s tasks at the beginning of a round.
Of course some considerations have to be done: Players should not be able to change their team when the round is going on.
Another small enhancement I am dreaming of would be a possibility to dissallow certain planes for a level. especially the miranda disturbs level concepts because of its warping feature …
I hope you find my suggestions useful.
It is just sa goons that make those maps. Usually they are made in the name of good humour. For example never forget is spelled nevar forget to show the American pride that invaded everyone’s email two years ago.
If you are really offended by that then you probably are against swearing on network tv and all that moronic crap. Or you are a fundie, in which case you should never be playing “killing” games anyway.
Just eat your hypocriticism and die. Also Wonder why I post under this name? Go search for goatse in google. Or add www. .cx and put it into your address bar. Or something. I warned you.
Ps. don’t be lame.
sudden sunking feeling :
Carry on.
THIS GAME ROCKS!!!
You know what? What makes this game so friggin great is that:
- Instantly playable
- Easy controls
- quick
- Multiplayer
- ADDICTIVE
Hats off to you lamster!

IMHO, this should be the basic concept of Java games! This is what other environments cannot provide that easy!
yep, cool game! :
Sweet game, unfortunatly it seems to be overrun by what are affectionatly known as ‘lamers’. :o
Apparently ‘JEW!’ is an insult now.
You can get around the MIME-type problem (6) by using PHP files. If you don’t like the .php extention, you can get around that by using Apache Mod_rewrite (all you need is access to .htaccess files). I have written a small tute for Xith3D on this topic: http://xith.org/tutes/GettingStarted/html/deploying_xith3d_games_with.html
I have been thinking about using JWS to handle my auto-updating as well. However what I would do is have two exe’s (for windoze users) on my site, one with the JRE and one without which installed a link to the game in the start menu for easy launching (1,5).
I wouldn’t worry too much about the M$ JVM - it’s days are numbered.
I have not had any troubles with the JWS caching of resources but I did find it a bit stupid with the caching of JNLP files (ie. when I updated them it for some reason didn’t).
My idea to use JWS is to make the auto-updating easy. I am interested if this will be more trouble than it’s worth but ATM I can see it as a timesaver (ie. all the auto-updating is taken care of).
Have you tried JWS with Java1.4.2? I havn’t ever seen the caching problem (2).
As for problem (4) that really shouldn’t happen
Using JWS - can you setup an “Install” directory or somthing where you can store local settings and the likes? and is there a way for it to remember where your directory is next time the game is launched?
BTW - some screen shots of your game would be great to see a preview (I’m at work so I don’t really want to fire it up and play).

[quote](the only installer for java I seem to come across is that shareware one that you have to register…)

I have used IzPack before which is a Java installer and I have liked it.
http://izforge.com/izpack/
I have since decided that Windoze users need a .exe and Linux users don’t really need an installer (tar -jxvf seems to work fine to me…) so I have reverted back to using the windows free Nullsoft NSIS installer to that end. That and using JWS
Of course the big disadvantage is that you can’t bundle a JRE in a Java installer…
