what game is the best???
The Secret of Monkey Island
You fight like a dairy farmer.
Um… none of the above? Wing Commander was The Best Game Ever. Wing Commander 2 was fun, and WC3 did us proud. It’s interesting to note that there were quite a few WC clones, but none of them actually succeeded. Jagged Alliance, Descent: Freespace, etc. all fell in the dustbin of time. (Of course for Descent, that may be because the controls sucked.)
EDIT: Why is Halo 1 listed twice?
See the Ultima Series.

Well it depends on how old you were when you played your supposed best game. For Wing Commander was very good but I was about 20 at this time. I’m not too sure if I’d like this game as much today if I was playing that game for the first time.
Anyway, I think the best game to date for me is Rayman 2 on PC.

Dude, you’re dating yourself…

I think that would actually depend on the context. If you saw it as an X-Box or PC Retail Game, you probably would pass it over. But if you saw it as a Gameboy title, an Applet, or perhaps a 4K entry, I think you would find it far more interesting. It’s all about setting expectations.

Never played it, but I understand it was of the same caliber as Earthworm Jim. Game developers were getting pretty darn creative with platformers before the market bottomed out on 2D gaming.

:o ;D are we on match.com?

You were speaking as if you developed these games?
I think it’s also about the story. A game must be not only fun but also existing and has a solid story.

I’m sorry, did I use an American colloquialism again?

What I mean is that you are dating yourself in the geological sense. i.e. You’ve just told us how old you are.

No, I was saying that WC2 was a lot of fun, and WC3 was truly a great tribute to the original. Now if they had only included blueprints, gun ranges, missile loadouts, and other info among all those CDs…
Raise your hand if you knew exactly what distance at which you could fire your opening salvo on the Kilrathi before breaking off as you enter their weapons range!

Indeed. And that was one thing that the Wing Commander series excelled at! By talking to your wingmen, and watching the cool cut-scenes, you really got the feeling that you were making a difference in the war! Even Wing Commander 3 had a special mission track for when you consistently failed! The Kilrathi moved in on Earth, and you made a last ditch effort at defense. In the process, you loose your carrier, your planet, and get treated to a nice video of the Kirathi victory! Not too many games do the story that well.

How appropriate, you fight like a Cow.

Absolutly yes! Sorry dude but I’m supposed to be old now
so I shouldn’t remember that…
Wheres “Ape Escape” On the PS1? :o
That game is the bestestest game ever! And infact, i still play it to this day. Not a single game outthere has matched its storyline, gameplay and intuitivity!
DP
mafia !
Heh - I was 24 when WC came out :o
Great game by the way, but there wasn’t much competition back then! And I think X-Wing was better…
Best game I ever played was Final Fantasy VII on the PC, once I got the 3DFx patch working. I just loved it, in all it’s Japanese strangeness.
Clearly… Killer Instict! ;D
I played it for years… with daily tournaments n stuff.
Well, I can’t play beat’em ups anymore. My left thumb is somewhat broken ever since then. I just can’t put any strain on that joint otherwise it will start to hurt (a lot)
There were days where I could write down 30 pages full of special moves from the top of my head. So much useless knowledge
I’m wondering if beat’em ups would be still my favorite genre if I had like… an invincible thumb. Hm… Guess so. The thrilling factor is absolutly unmatched. First person shooters for example needs so much pressure behind it (like a tournament on a big lan party) for getting close to that. I think I kinda miss that…
None of the above, even if FF7 (included in “the final fantasy series”, I guess) ranks pretty high.
The Best Game Ever title goes to Doom (the first one), The Secret of Monkey Island (the first one), Half Life (the first one), or possibly GTA: San Andreas.
Heck, XCOM: Ufo Defense and Day of the Tentacle are both way better than all games on that list combined.
Oh yeah, and Warlords 2. And Rez.
Raiders of the Lost Ark on the Atari 2600. I spent many, many hours on that game. Never did finish the damn thing. Wing Commander is a close second, though
I’m starting to feel old in this forum. There were some games released before year 2000 you know.
I’m an RPG dude, so I’ll list my favourite RPGs:
Dungeon Master (Atari ST), still very playable, download it for PC http://dmweb.free.fr/DMDownloads.htm#Dungeon%20Master%20for%20PC.
Ultima Underworld 1 & 2
System Shock 2, best atmosphere ever in a game, try replaying it with this patch: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/etienne.aubert/sshock/sshock_rebirth.htm
World of Warcraft, have only played for about 1 month but it’s a brilliant game
Gotta say Halo1. ;D
The game not only sold itself to me it also made me buy the Xbox, which makes it the most expensive game I’ve ever bought. And I don’t even regret it.
Halo is also one of the few games that I’ve played to the end without getting bored enough to quit… even though I was closed to quit when the “flood” came up… :
What is it with action game developers and their never-ending love for lots of easy-to-kill-monsters anyway?
PS1. I bougth Halo2 but havn’t had time to play it for more than 5 minutes yet…
PS2. Why two Halo1 options to vote for?
Guys best game ever is NINJA GAIDEN, it has one of the best graphics. I am going to send a winner of the best game ever today, if everyone votes.
