Bee, The Brave Honey Maker

Bee is a 2D simulation game implemented entirely in Java. The game is still under construction, however there are already 3 maps, and a lot of game logic and game-play is ready to enjoy. Visit the following site for current and upcoming beta versions.

Bee is now embedded in an applet and can be played in browser. So far, the applet has been tested on:

Ubuntu 10.4: Firefox (3.5.10)

WinXp: FireFox (3.5.10), IE (6.0)

It would be great if you could help me testing the applet on other operation systems and browsers, e.g. Mac OS and Safari or Opera.

Follow the yellow link on funmaker site:

Hah, I found the game really addictive for some reason.

I really like the game play of collecting while dodging. It did take me a few moments to realize that the beehives were where I was supposed to be dropping off the honey collected though.

Maybe adding some ‘enemy’ bees that you have to race for the honey would be a way to extend the game play in later levels. (even a ‘capture the honey’ game where you have to protect/steal the honey from the other team).

Nice work
Matt

Hi Matt,

you have good ideas, I will discuss that with my team mates. I hope you upgraded your attributes for faster collecting juice and producing honey, and don’t forget the speed attribute

Worked on XP+Opera.
Visuals could be clearer, I found the enemy insects pretty dark, the scene overall also : platforms, background is all green on green,
causing a feeling of eyestrain.
The bright honeycomb design of the splash page, should maybe use that to advantage,
for example instead of progress bars have a number of small hexes filling up,
transfer hexes, utilize the hexagon in gameplay, maybe do a bee dance for your friends at the hive to get more honey from a place that has
lots of it… Its definitely expandable.
Music loop is instantly repeating, needs to be longer or switch to turn it off.
Otherwise good basic concept, worth polishing to a finished game i think.

And screenshots are always a good idea, it’s nice to sneak a peek

Hi Karmington,

thank you for the valuable feedback. We will consider the points on further work. Our designer is working on map assets at the moment, we will integrate more and more new assets and also new enemies such as spiders, disturbing bugs, and birds. For version 1.0.0 we want to have 15 maps. We are also planing to support various map missions – currently the mission is only to produce a particular amount of honey in a limited time.
