There’s some nice potential here, but overall the game feels flawed. I could provide more detail if you want. =)
It feels like I’m getting 15fps. Certainly a long way off being smooth.
Limited bullets, doesn’t tell you that, doesn’t auto-reload between levels, and no obvious way of reloading?! That’s a major UI deficiency at best.
hmm. I liked the game, I agree though reloading is a must.
Is it supposed to pause whne you click off screen? cause it says “click on screen” or somehting like that. and jsut kept going ???
It was kinda lagged, not literaly but it felt like it cause it moved slow elft and right.
P.S: this reminds me of a game I used to paly on arcade 98. It is exactlyt he same :). cant think of name though
Camon Markus. Btw do u do now some Java or another stuffs.
I’m not entirely sure what you’re asking, but I’m going to have to go with “yes, I do know some Java and other stuffs”.
I can tell that you’re really putting a lot of effort into this, and it’s really starting to show. I remember playing an older version, and this is much improved! Nice job!
My main problem with the game is that it’s slow. Not only does the player ship move far to slow for me to have any fun at all (although I have to admit it did make some of the obstacle courses exciting in an “ooh, will he make it?” way), but the framerate is also very very low, and there seems to be almost no pattern to when it is. Once I got horrible framerate travelling over land with few enemies, only to have the framerate go up significantly once I got out over water.
It seems that game speed is also directly tied to the framerate. This might explain a few things.
My secondary problem is that there are limited bullets, and no obvious way of reloading.
The first time I saw the reloading pad, I assumed it was something that was good for the player, so the graphics are probably somewhat clear, if a bit understated (a big “HOVER HERE TO RELOAD” animation would be good. seriously.). But when I tried to move my ship towards it, I hit some wall and started taking damage, so I assumed the entire thing was just an animated obstacle. It wasn’t until sneaking my way through a level with 0 bullets and not getting a free reload at the end of a level that I decided to risk it again.
I like the game mechanic of hovering a specific place to gain resources, but it’s probably better left for shield recharging than for ammo reloading. Running out of ammo is not fun in any way.
The graphics are acceptable, but lack polish. Sometimes I find it hard to see what background objects let the player pass and which are just blocks that don’t. The player ship and the helicopters have some kind of weird gray semi transparent box around them, which looks tacky. Most other enemy graphics look great, though.
I like the boss fights, and the ability to purchase items between levels. The items you can purchase seem a bit useless, though. I’d rather be able to purchase things like +5% rate of fire for 15 coins, or spread fire for 20, or penetrating bullets for 30, than have to save up for ages to get an extra life.
I do realize I might come off a bit negative here, but I really think you’ve got some potential in this. I’m impressed by the work you’ve done so far, but think you need to look more at polish. =)
Good work so far. And I love it for using the right theme song!!!
I hope Lars doesn’t come knockin’ asking for royalties!
I heard he’s taking such things quite easy :-X

I think there are some good ideas being presented here. The “re-loading” stations are an interesting idea, though I think you could play around with tweaking how much ammunition is given, rates of refill, etc.
My biggest concern for this style of game is your ships’ speed (it’s far too slow) and the inertia. Take inertia out, it rarely works well in a shmup. Let me repeat this… take it out That will allow you to speed up the ship without any repercussions.
Bill
It’s not just me then. ;D Although River Raid had some hellishly tight corridors to navigate through.
I’m with the2bears as well - inertia doesn’t work well for this game (or if you do include it, it’s got to be tiny). Faster movement and more obstacles to dodge would be good too.
The game is inspired by River Raid.
