Hi.
Im making my first plattform game in java atm.
And i thought it would be fun to make it in an applet.
Is it a bad idea to make your games in an applet.
Is it slower than for example a JFrame?
Thanks.

There’s nothing really wrong with applets and there are no speed disadvantages as far as I know.
But, you should be aware that many people still use the MS VM for applets (which is java 1.1, so very ancient), so if you want those people to be able to play your game too, you should target java 1.1. Or of course target 1.4 and up and encourage people to install a new JVM.
I’ll just get thoose people to upgrade
ya! All my Applet’s on GameLizard require 1.3 as of right now. However thanks to the GAGE Timer, anyone with 1.5 will recieve superior smoothness
Gage Timer ??? ??? ???
Be aware though that unelss you sign the applet, applets come with certain restrictions-- like being unable to write to the user’s hard drive.
Check out the GAGETimer. All my games have their framerates managed by that
Thank you jbanes! We love you! ;D
The advantage of applications over applets in my opinion is the application’s ability to go into full-screen mode, grabs the players attention much better
I think when you sign your applet, you can use full-screen exclusive mode too. Not that there’s a point in using an applet for a full-screen game though…
