Bad Sector

http://www.xehonk.de/projects/files/badsector/badsector.jnlp

Alternative controls (cursor instead of wasd):
http://www.xehonk.de/projects/files/badsector/badsector_cursor.jnlp

Controls:

  • wasd: movement
  • space: level transitions / restart
  • mouse: aiming and firing

Features

  • size: currently 4054 bytes
  • 5 levels at the moment

Tips:

  • keep shooting, you’ve got unlimited ammo
  • tight places can be good to take cover, enemies dont spawn right next to you
  • enemies keep spawning, so dont try to camp
  • enemies spawn every 10 seconds, plan your moves accordingly

Awesome name! cough

That round light thingy looks a lot better. Oh and I think its the first 4k game with pathfinding

Impressive, but waaay to slow for my taste
Enemies spawned almost within me though, no chance… a bit bothering

EDIT: Inspired by Tapan Kaikki?

great game!!

This year’s level is impressive, really.

i miss some kind of effect on critter dying, maybe some particles.

btw, isn’t too expensive to use a dialog?

inspired by alien swarm actually (you should try it, if you didnt (ut mod))

looks like my non-existing throttling is causing this… i’ll work on it :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, very nice, nice pathfinding! Also ran kinda slow for me, and it would be nice to have more than one life…

Good job!

Very cool game.

try the new version… it should run a lot faster (if you have more than 500mhz ::))

Heh. It does run faster with 500mhz, too :stuck_out_tongue:

Java 1.5 update 6.

I have in fact tried alien swarm. I see the resemblence… I think alien swarm might be inspired by Tapan Kaikki though, and that Tapan might be inspired by even older games

there is very litle yet to invent in gaming… and inventing it is our task ;D

Those enemys sure suddenly come from all directions  Great game format, and the WASD movement/mouse aiming combination works nicely. I’m not sure about the ‘try again’ dialog. Could this be done using the main window?

Alan

looks like you’re not the only one who didnt like those dialogs… removed
the nullpointerexception should be fixed as well (i hope)

Nice gameplay!

Except I kept pressing “s” to go “back” instead of “up”, so I ran into a lost of bugs when they came from below.

unplayable on a french keyboard…

move with right click as an option ?

Lilian

i uploaded a version that can be controlled with the cursor keys instead… maybe you want to try that one

yup it’s better.

Thanks

Lilian

Heh… I backed into the end of an alley and shot anything that came into it. I saw the bugs that spawned within my view circle and they’d spawn from the exact same location ever time.
