avatar images....

i’m just a noob, but…
my avatar image is distorted, and I’ve noticed others’ are as well. it’s as if the board uses some strange img tag that stretches the image to an unnecessary size.

in the sake of posterity, here’s what mine should look like (good ol’ 64x64):

“Please note that your image must be gif or jpg and that it will be resized.” :]

Try ‘View Source’ and have a poke around: you’ll see that the image is always resized to 80x80.

okay, so it does resize the images.

therefore, may i suggest that it not resize them? surely, it’s a forum feature that can be swtiched on and off. it’ll save space (posts won’t be so ‘big’ vertically), and the avatars won’t look jagged

If the software running the forum didn’t resize the images to something nice like 64x64 or 80x80 in this case, I could just upload an image that is 512x512 and really screw things up. I think it must be a safety feature against such a thing.

Andy.

Here’s a crazy thought… how about redoing your logo at 80x80 yourself? Or just padding it out to 80x80 with a transparent border? ;D

Changing the software to display graphics at actual size may fix your image, but surely it’ll break those of everyone else?

The software resizes to make sure that images don’t exceed a particular size and does not break the format of the boards.

alright, those are fair points…
yet on other boards (I think conceptart.org) they have avatar image limits that are imposed by some implicit profile check (to ensure image is of certain dimension and filesize), and not resized explicitly using html code.

it’s just a suggestion, so that people don’t have to re-make images specifically for this board or have their images get shrunk/enlarged

and personally, 80x80 is a bit large. 64x64 is such a nice number…

Well, people here will judge you on the quality of your posts, not the quality of your icon ;D

i can’t help but notice that you’ve changed your avatar image since your last post on this thread…

Yeah, taking a more authortative stance

everyone does realise that the above is the answer to the question?
