Just posted to Apple’s java-dev list:

[quote]We have just released Java SE 6.0 Release 1 Developer Preview 1 and it is currently only available for Intel-based Macintosh computers. We will be releasing a DP in the near future for PPC also. We just wanted to get 1.6 out as fast as possible. It is available at the usual location of http://connect.apple.com. Please give us you feedback.

Java SE 6.0 Release 1 Developer Preview 1 (Intel)
Java SE 6 brings a number of new features to the Java SE platform on Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger. This is Developer Preview 1 of Java SE 6.0 Release 1 (1.6.0_b77) for Intel-based Macintosh computers. This preview does not replace existing J2SE installations but should not be installed on systems with critical data. Please see the release notes for more information.

Be warned! No webstart or fullscreen or PPC version! Not much use to anyone yet.

The webstart warning in a little misleading. Java 5 remains installed and the Java 5 WebStart knows how to launch applications that specify a version string of 1.6+

There are other important things to note in the readme though… which I’m not allowed to repeat here because of Apple paranoia…

I will hint though that certain rendering options that were made available in Java 5 on Mac should be tested if you are using Java2D for your game, because it seems Java 6 will be changing some defaults… see the readme…

Thanks for the hint. On Java 5 I found that certain options gave different initial fills & blending defaults. Best not to assume anything regarding drawing contexts me thinks. The Javadoc states that you can’t rely on the initial state of some things. I haven’t signed anything and can say what I like.
