Are we able to achieve this? Felt demotivating...

Markus was generous enough to divide his medals by what they were worth.

divide by what they were worth

1÷0? Else, I just can’t figure out how the infinite sign fit in. I do know medals worth nothing, like karma, internet points, etc…

Have you ever heard of notch?
Maybe?
Minecraft?

1 / 0 != infinity

Ha! I never made that connection. I only think of him as Notch.

Holy snoots, i logged in just to medal this.

10/10, sir.

@BoBear2681: It depends on what algebra you’re talking about. It certainly does over floating-point. And over reals…does anyone ever bother to explicitly write out the limit?

@Roquen, I was taught that for reals, n/0 is undefined. The limit from the left is different than the limit from the right as x -> 0 (-infinity vs. +infinity), so it doesn’t matter whether you “write out the limit” or not. Feel free to school me if I’m wrong.

Can some filthy intellectual hand over the unicode character of undefined ? :cranky:

Heh. I LOL’d

IEEE Float standard defines n/0 as +/- Infinity

\u22a5 is used in some contexts to mean undefined, although if you want an undefined value which is greater than all others (the top of a partial order) it might be more appropriate to use \u22a4.

As I withheld from personal hygiene to meet the criteria to reply, I’m off now to take a shower. :wink:

@kaffinene: reals & float all have implicit positive signs if not stated: 1.0/0.0 = +Infinity always. 1.0/(-0.0) = -Infinity.
@BoBear2681: That’s formally correct. I was simply musing that when the ‘sign’ is obvious, does anyone bother with the limits? I certainly don’t. In this context, since people award medals and others actively seek them and there’s no thread of “make these go away”…it must approach from the positive.

Well considering that medal count should always be positive, the limit is coming from the right, therefore infinity.

Considering his awesome work that lift up Java name in gaming industry, it’s worth.

Actually, it's the fact that the value of the medals (the denominator) is approaching zero from the right that causes our limit to be +infinity. The assumptions are that folks cannot have negative medal counts, and that medals cannot have a negative value.

What was the link to.that stats page again? i need to see my e-penis!

In the JGO header (medal fold out) and in my signature.

Your e-penis is above average in most ways.

;D ;D ;D ;D :point: ::slight_smile:
