Is there a list somewhere of supported features in java 1.1?
I can’t seem to find anything on the web, so I thought I’d ask here.
Just want to know what I’ll miss from 1.4.2

Ups. Just found a download at suns website for the API spec.
Here’s the link for reference http://java.sun.com/products/archive/

Off the top of my head…
Sound that is not completely *&"% (1.1 sound is so bad its laughable)
Any sort of rendering performance. Do your own software blitting, its much faster than the 1.1 graphics.
Other stuff I don’t use
Well… on the ms vm drawing transparent images isn’t all that bad. But to do any effects like rotation, scaling, or alpha compositing you don’t have any choice but to do it in software.
Hey! The 1.1 jdk is only 3.5 MB!!! Wow, how times have changed…
Cool. Thanks guys. Does the audioclip thingie play MIDI files in 1.1?
No.
We briefly tried MIDI, but for som ereason the default MIDI sounds don’t seem to be provided in the VMs, and it sounds terrible (even in 1.4).
Either the sounds are all wrong, or the timing of the notes is completely out. Maybe I was doing something wrong but after a brief attempt we decided to drop MIDI as a bad idea.
What must we do to make 1.1 die!!!???

Dunno how it’s with 1.1, but nowadays you need a soundbank for midi. The SDK comes with a soundbank wheras the JRE (ironically) comes without one.
The soundbank is also needed for beatnik (rmf) and it’s 300kb to 5mb(or so) in size - depending on the quality you choose.
I thought it just used the soundcard/os wavetable if the bank was missing?

It uses some kind of software bs, which sounds odd and it also can’t get the timing right. It’s fine for 4k games, which abuse midi as sound effects - for everything else it’s just unsuitable.
