(1) Well, you coulddo it yourself by writing an Applet container (I thin kthe magic class is AppletContext but its been awhiel scien i did this.)
In practice its seldom done because it comes up so seldom and is generally much much easier just to make the necessary modifications to your code.
I note that uou say “JFrame”. Keep in mind that unless your Applet was a Swing Applet then the conversio nfrom AWT to Swing is likely to be a far bigger issue then from Applet to Application.
(2) Depends on what you mean b y an “exe.” if you just want a launch-by-click then virtually every installer product today cna make one for you. InstallAnywhere used to have a bottom end free version ,you might try that. Alterantely, you can just make a shortcut that invokes the java.exe with the right parameters.
If you really want precompield binaries for some bizzare reason, then you need to look at one of the actual java pre-compilers out there.
I didn’t get the JBuilder reference at all unless you are referring to the afct that it has an excutable launcher generator built in (I actually believe its just InstalLAnywhere licensed and integrated but I may be wrong.)
hm wel… if that so…thx anyway bout that mr Jeff ^^
about the instal anywhere is that free trial?
and work with full version?
( i mean A full Version Program and it was free Download )
Its a full version of the most basic version of InstallAnywhere, InstalLAnywhere NOW.
They arent going to give you ALL their product for free.
However I just took a look and it seems like they arent doing that anymore.
There are some open source Java launchers out there, i remember hearing abotua cpouple a few years ago. They arent likely to be as convenient as an InstalLAnywhere installer but trhat woudl fit your requirement of zero cost.
There’s a free one I use called JavaLauncher.
It can make .exe or .jar, with or without compression, etc.
Its not great,(heh heh and has errors sometimes), but it works for my small programs.
You have a couple of good free options.
Nullsoft Scriptable Install System http://nsis.sourceforge.net/. It is Windows only, but is completely free(Open source).
IzPack http://www.izforge.com/izpack/. It is a cross-platform install system. Completely configurable and free(Open source). It generates executable JAR files, so it does require at least Java v1.2 to be installed already.
I take it that either the .exe is massive or the system its run on still requires java to be present?
Kev
The exe is not massive, however I’m not sure whether or not it requires java to be present.
