Does anyone live in Sydney or know anyone in Sydney who likes doing game programming?
Thanks,
Keith

not in Sydney… I live in Adelaide tho.
Cool, yeah I remember that you mentioned that in another thread. And there’s Bobjob in Melbourne and SwampChicken in Perth.
I’m really itching to meet some like-minded game programmers. When are you coming down to Sydney next? I might also try to squeeze in a holiday to adelaide if you want to meet up.
All of the IT people I talk to down here (I don’t know many IT people) are only interested in boring database stuff and/or J2EE.
Cheers,
Keith

Unfortunately ‘boring database stuff and J2EE’ is where most money is to be made.
It’s very hard not to get caught in the ‘build me another website’-jobs.
Anyway, I live half a world away, and I’m not going to Australia any time soon
You have no idea how close to home that remark is…
I’m currently sitting between 2 code monkeys that are currently arguing (around me) over some paragraph in Bloch’s effective java.
And for some unknown reason, I keep visualising mental images of garrottes?!?!
I do not really travel interstate that often… silly mortgage to pay off
You might want to find a local game developer scene similar to Adelindie ( http://www.adelindie.org/forum/index.php ) I am would not really consider myself a ‘real’ game programmer, rather i enjoy solving specific and specialised problems which gaming seems to have a lot of I do like programming in other problem domains, such as compression. Which is probably why i really like the java 4k competition
Thanks for the link, I’m searching for a sydney equivalent but can’t find anything yet. That’s a pity that you don’t travel. You know, you should reconsider since the mortgage will hang over you for the best part of the rest of your life! Well if I’m ever in Adelaide I’ll be sure to send you a PM.
Ouch
Fair enough, and I suppose for most IT people, since they do IT all day they probably can’t bare the look of a computer to program games in their spare time. It’s lucky we’re not like that!
