Any chance for Java Gaming Technology to make E3 in 2007?

Anyone working on a java game, game engine or technology demostration that will have a big enough impact to make the E3 Expo in 2007?

What do you think needs to be done for this to happen?

Jeff

my game might make it by E3 2027

Everything you see at E3 is there ebcause someone payed a LOT of money to show it there.

So the short answer is, when a Java game has a big advertisign and amrketing budget, it will show at E3.

I know of oen or two projects out there that might qualify. I dont knwo delivery dates and wouldn’t be at liberty to say them if I did, sorry :frowning:

My game will be there next year. I’m spending $120,000 to show it off.
It’s called "Kruno’s Computer Graphics Assignment, Part 2 ".

Maybe we can get Carmack to endorse Java?

Good luck to those individuals!

Why? John knows what Java is and back when we were talking to id about a full port of Q3A to Java, they were like “Yeah, you can do it, no problem. But why?” I mean John is SCARY smart, but not the only guy in the room any more. At the end of the day, John is bit twiddler and LIKES the control he has over the hardware is writing to. For him, figuring out everythign himself and writing his own tech is what gets him out of bed in the morning.

Jeff and I know of a couple of games that will be released within the next 1 - 1 1/2 years that may make the Java game landscape look quite a bit different than it does today.

You guys know how to burn someone’s curiosity. Either spill the beans or wait until they are ready to release it!!! I’m over here dying with the cat!

My 2d sprite game will hopefully make a huge impact. ;D

I think this is something that Sun has to tackle, they need to show their product.

Well…if Sun has a DarkStar booth perhaps a couple developers that have games that make good examples of the technology could tag along at a reduced cost ( co-located booth ). The booth could be SGS focused with a side table for each of those games.

Plus, just think of the decorating you could do! Retro 70s space ship interrior, funky music, all the SGS team looking like hippy astronauts. You could give away small squishy balls with clawed feet to the first 50 visitors each day. Not to mention the intelligent bomb that hangs from the celing quoting “In the beginning there was darkness…just darkness. Then in the darkness, there was ME!” 8)

Well, I think SUN needs a whole lot more than couple of booths at E3 to make any progress in spreading Java as a viable solution-tool to gaming problems.

Integration, integration and integration.

Thing is… our market arent the E3 buyers. YOUR market may be the E3 buyers but our market are the publishers and the game developers.

And we get much better traffic of those kinds of people through the booth at developer events like GDC.

E3 is for publishers to reach retailers. Its a retail show.
