ALIEN FLUX source code

If enough of you buggers buy the game I’ll release the sourcecode to it, which should prove to be quite enlightening for newbies and interesting for pros.

I see over 2,000 members here, so I reckon 200 of you could probably scrape together the price of a pizza and sixpack.

With the sourcecode you should also be able to come up with some mods for it which might be fun. Modding Alien Flux is dead easy but I’ll need to do some tweaks to make it completely easy. Who’s up for it?

The countdown begins! You have until Christmas

Could you please keep the advertisement in Your Games or something? =/

Cool idea to release the source!

Having seen it I can say that it is really worthwhile reading!! Go for it!

Nice! Here’s hoping you get a lot of bites.

As a stop-gap, have you considered putting a proprietary licence on the non-LWJGL/non-SPGL parts of your code and giving it away with the game? Slap on a do-not-distribute, do-not-resell clause and let people who want to see what makes it tick() learn from it. Make it clear that the code will be GPL’d once enough people buy it. Might tempt a few more punters?

I couldn’t care less about redistribution or use! In fact I want to encourage it (mainly because I want some people to write games for me to publish  Let’s face it - if you’re competent enough to write a game and finish it to a level at which it will sell you are probably competent enough to arrive at your own code eventually. To most people it’s just fun poking through the source code and I’m looking forward to see some mods.

There are a lot of very common, deep questions answered in that source code. Nearly everything, in fact, that ever gets asked on this site by newbies is solved in that sourcecode somewhere, apart from multiplayer programming.

But it’s not only the source that is needed. a lot of guys want a tutorial or at least good documented/structured code. no noob will dig into 10k+ lines of code to get an answer to his questions.

Hm, the source is really good! Believe me. You can find what you are looking for. And contains some very nice tricks worthwhile studying.

But I agree that it is not entry-level code.

I’m always available to answer questions, usually in great depth…
