ALIEN FLUX in the news

http://www.gamezone.com/news/06_06_03_11_01AM.htm

They got 1 bit wrong, which is, you can’t get it yet  I’m still coding t’bugger.

Cas

Also mentioned in Sun’s press release
http://www.sun.com/smi/Press/sunflash/2003-06/sunflash.20030604.1.html. All this media hype and it isn’t even ready yet

Phenomenal!

Hey, great going!

Awesome interview Cas! I especially like the part about the “Dad Test”. 3D shooter are getting increasingly dull and antisocial. I really do believe that 2D “classic gaming” will make a comeback sometime in the near future.

Cool. Congrats cas.

Now can you tell me what the cheat code is so I can actually get past the first level?? :stuck_out_tongue:

(Ironic isnt it that I suck at twitch games??)

JK

Hehe, not yet!

And level 1 - shame on you! It’s no harder than whack-a-mole!

Cas

Quote from interview:
“Is Puppy Games going to continue experimenting with Java?”

Experiment? heh! silly interviewer.

I think we’ve been fairly straight up about what we think of Java in the interview, and the game speaks for itself although he hasn’t yet been able to play it… but even being as direct an monsyllabic as I can, no-one takes us seriously when we tell them it’s Java!

Even our own Captain-Goatse has abandoned ship citing spurious reasons flying in the face of proper hard facts. What gives?

Cas

Cas,

Congrats on your exposure! I can only hope I can get a reviewer or two to look at our game when the time comes. You are a model to aspire after.

Are you finding a lot of resistance because of “the Java thing?”

Not resistance, mainly surprise, and sometimes a little incredulity.

I’ll show 'em. You wait for the 10th.

Cas

What you say?

Last I heard he abandoned ship and has gone back to the Dark Side.

Cas

Heh, was cool to see your beta running at JavaOne not once, or twice, but 3 different times

Great stuff

Hurrah! Our first review!

He didn’t have a bad thing to say about it. But I’d like to find out where we lost that 0.1 on the sound!

Cas

Great review!

But there is something that has sort of bugged me about the marketing of Alien Flux…
This quote from the review sums it up, “…the first game ever programmed entirely using Java.”

That’s stretching it a bit don’t you think? It’s far from the first and it’s not ENTIRELY Java in the sense that it requires native code that is not part of the JRE.

I understand that all of the game logic is Java and I know how thin a layer LWJGL is, so it really is just a nit-pick… Not that I particularily care… but I’m just waiting for the day some mis-informed anti-java dumb dumb tries to say that you’re “cheating”

hehe

“Alien Flux is Puppy Games’ first game, as well as the first game ever programmed entirely using Java.”

shouldn’t that at least been “…first commercial game…” ;D

Anyways Java Games seems to be on the move into mainstream. Yesterday I overheard a couple of teenage girls, on the train home, discussing wich java game was the coolest on their mobile phones.

Actually…

There are several games:

Law and Order
GetAmped
Shadow Watch

Thare are others, but I’m blanking right now

-SG

I, er, deliberately didn’t nitpick on that one because it’s nearly true in so many ways  Journos always manage to get one thing wrong somehow.

Cas

Hey princec,

since I tried your beta version I didn’t take the time to tell you congratulations for your terrific game! It’s very cool even though I haven’t been able to complete the first level yet (I think I misunderstood something in the rules)! :-*
