AgentFX 2 Platform Beta 1

Hi everybody

AgentFX 2 Platform, the Java-based 3D-engine that is used in MegacorpsOnline has now been released and is available for download, testing and even purchase.

This is the first beta version and some of the features are marked as experimental. The engine has a clean interface for developers and a large variety of features such as dynamic lighting, octree spatial subdivision, portal system and a character animation system with skeleton-based animations. Bump maps and real-time shadows are also available but are currently marked as “experimental”…

…Basically it’s got everything in 3D-graphics for you to create at least something like Quake III … and with a little experimenting even your own Doom III  You’ll have to do the physics and audio though, since this is a 3D-engine. And if you find someone like Activision to even pay you for your development-time that’s even better

Anyway… point your browser to

to read more about AgentFX 2, download it and get started.

The engine has been used at Luleå University of Technology in research and education. Scientists and students found it easy to use and get started with. There are some simple demos and source code included in the package… It’s a good idea to check those out if you’re in a hurry to get started

About the license, I saw there is a Learning Edition which may be used for private non-commercial use. Does this exclude creating (and releasing) non-commercial games?

With the PLE version you are allowed to develop and release non- commercial games as long as the developer and the distribution chain is non-commercial.

Businesses, educational institutions or any similar type of establishment may not use PLE version of the software.

That would be a rather bad EULA (I mean that second part)

Buisnesses (eg an independant developer) etc should be allowed to use it for internal evaluation, but (of course) not for advertising (anything public) or commercial projects.

[ot² the agentfx2 logo doesn’t look as good as the rest of the page]

For those interested in using AgentFX under such settings please contact us at www.agency9.com and we will work something out.
