Ads in a Java game?

I oh so badly want to implements ads into my games.

It makes the game look so appealing since it would be free, and also having returning players would just get me more money than a single pay game.

Sadly, I have not a clue on how to do this. (I would like to stay away from Libraries and such) I’ve already googled it and couldn’t find to many good tips and what not, so I came here. \

How would I implement an ad service like I don’t know adf.ly or google adwords or what ever?

sigh

First off, it shouldn’t be about the money. You obviously are not doing this to support yourself, so stop worrying about making money off of people.

Second, you will need to use libraries unless you create your own ad system, somehow make ad companies sell ad space to you, and then implement it into your game. Seriously, stop thinking libraries are evil and use them.

Third, do not put ads into a desktop game. Mobile games are ok, and web based games are ok, but desktop games are not ok by any stretch, especially after the player has bought your game. Again, see point one.

It really isn’t bout the money haha thats just an added bonus

Well tht’s a shame tht i will have to use libraries, they hevent been that nice to me over the years. The game always works great in eclipse but once i export it and try to distribute the file won’t open, therefore when i see the word library i look for the nearest closet to hide in. Anyways thanx for the info. Probably gets annoying with all these newb game devs on here huh? lol

i had the problem of my program not working with libraries when exported. it took a couple of hours to find: jarsplice, which solved that problem.

I’m sorry, but from the posts I’ve seen by you the past day, it really does look like it’s about the money. Sure, we’d all like to make money (hell, even my project is going to have a price tag on it). But that shouldn’t be your goal, you end up rushing your product out as fast as possible and don’t give it the love and attention it deserves . . . and from the replies in your project thread, I’d say that is exactly what you did.

Either way though you have the right to sell your games and you have the right to put ads in them. But it’s bad practice to do both. Either make it free and ad supported (not recommended for desktop games), or just make it a one-time fee, they own it, no ads. No one wants to pay for a game with advertising in it! That’s why they opt to pay for it!

My recommendation if you want to go for money:

  1. Don’t go for money, take your time and focus on the game. Forget money all together.
  2. Repeat step 1 a million times until the game is polished, bug free and fun to play.
  3. Profit! (Only happens after you complete step 1)

Hey Thx man, that really will help

Will do Ray, I suspect I still have a little bit of that money crazed kid still in me. I’ll work on polishing my next project. Thx!

A quick search brought this up:

Again, the previous posts have good points. Getting your game polished and fun is step #1. Making money from it comes after.
