A start... feedback appreciated

I’ve just started putting together a computer version of the old TSR minigame “Revolt on Antares.” It’s just in the basic stages so far, but I posted what I’ve done in the files section at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Java-Game-Programming

Because I can’t get my classpath working correctly, I’ve had to do some odd things (for instance, to run the app, you ‘java’ a file called UglyKluge). I’d appreciate any feedback anyone has for me.

No idea how that is played but you really make is difficult to use…

  • become a member of the yahoo group
  • download a zip
  • unpack
  • copy uglycluge.class to the right place
  • run it
  • leave group (puh…)

Basically is works (again: no idea what it should do).

Ah, font in the lower left box is was to small.

I’m not sure how to make it any easier. I don’t have a web site of my own, so I have to use a Yahoo group to post code, and like I said, problems with my classpath make the whole ugly UglyKluge thing a necessity.

Yeah, all it does right now is display a map and a hexagon grid and a couple panels.

How about starting yourself a project over at java.net. You’ll have webspace and file sharing and cvs for free… its quite a nice system, means you can make your source viewable aswell. Might help with some of the questions over in the NC area…

Huh, I don’t know anything about that. I’ll look into it.

I modified the file on the Yahoo group, so now UglyKluge unzips into the right directory, so at least there’s that.

Update: I just tried to register at java.net, and I’m forbidden to by the library’s computer. I don’t have my own internet connection, so I have to make do with sites I can access from the library. I guess that rules out java.net. Thanks for the idea, though.

Someone at the library needs to be shot…

seriously - complain and get that fixed.
