Gonna load it up with linux (distro undecided) and make it my web/mail/samba/music/miscellaneous server. Will probably make another one in a not so distant future, slap on some WiFi and make it my HTPC
Sinclair ZX-81, 16kb memory expansion, datarecorder, external keyboard with “real” keys, a couple of cassettes that (with some luck) might still work, no sound, no colour.

I decline to post in this thread until the end of the week. By then my new computer should be on its way - Athlon 64 3500+, 256MB GeForce 6800 GT, 1GB RAM, 17" Iiyama TFT etc.
Everything’s picked and waiting for dispatch apart from the CPU - AMD are having some distribution problems and the 3000 and 3500 are just plain not available. By the end of next week, either the chip will have turned up or I’ll have got too impatient and paid twice as much for the 3800+ instead! ;D

I had 80 kB one, so I’m not entirely sure of what one did you own. For your info I doubt that few “thousand” cassettes with games will work anymore. They worked for 3 years.

I looked at Nemiath. It’s a very nice processor. I builded computer for high speed simulations and for programming in assembly with SSE2 and SSE3 instructions, so I chose Celeron - D. If I could have both I would probably went for it.

This reminds me how did I get my current mainboard. They didn’t had SE boards ready for around a week so I decided to get a ASUS P4P800 E DELUXE. It cost me a keyboard, but I can add twice as much HDs into it, and I have two firewire ports. (But I’d tell you, that cover for USB and sound connectors is SHARP.)

Just got my iBook a few weeks ago when I started school, so that’s what I’ve been programming on all day.

The CD drive’s broken on it, so I wrote a java program in JDev(that’s an IDE for you losers that don’t use it ;)) to break files down into chunks, and then merge them back together (I needed to move a large file to my mac, but only had a small SD card and portable USB SD drive). The file I had to move was the mac version of JDev :). It’s really slow on my g3 300, so I’ve just been using TextEdit.

I hadn’t bought any new hardware in 3-4 years, and I’d been waiting for Doom3 since the day it was announced. I promised to buy myself a new machine to replace my ageing 700MHz Athlon the moment Doom came out - I was intending to get it ordered in the week running up to the Friday release, so I could sit down on Saturday morning, build a PC, and play Doom. Because of work-related hassles, and then problems obtaining hardware, it’s only now that it’s all come together.
But yes, while I didn’t go completely over the top - paying twice as much for a 3800+, paying £100 more for a 6800 Ultra, getting a 19" TFT etc - I did decide that this was my new computer, and it’s likely to be around for a good while yet - why not push the boat out and get a really good one?
(Oh, another criteria was that I wanted to play Doom 3 at 1280x1024 on High Quality and at full frame rate…)
