A couple of new screen shots

I thought I would post a few new screen shots, since I’ve finished developing the GUI system, and have just about started creating real levels for the game.

Screen 1: options menu

Screen 2: A shot of the Exigent approaching an automated mining machine located on a huge asteroid.

I am getting pretty happy with the engines capabilities now. The tris count has gone way up, but so has my FPS

The post collision physics still need some work, but other then that, it’s just about finished. I can just about start focusing more on the actual game…finally.

Comments welcome… and serious story ideas as well

You’ve seriously got to get bumpmapping on all your surfaces! It’s so easy to do and brings it right into the 21st century.

Just remember to provide a fallback to flat stuff if ARB_texture_env_dot3 is not available.

Cas

Hehe…I have been thinking of implementing it for the last few weeks. The only thing stopping me is thinking about how much more work it will add to the project. Implementing in the engine is easy, adding it to all the surfaces will be alot of work.

Now that someone has mentioned it I am going to have to do it! errr…thanks

I suggest that we get the United Nations to ban and make crappy cards illegal ;). Life would be so much easier

Hehe…decisions would be easier, but the decisions (“Should we add in…?”) would always lead to the answer “Yes”, which would lead to more work

Or just write some shared code that checks the OpenGL HW vendor on startup, and pops up a big red message:

“What!?! You’re running THIS old crap? Man, you really ought to dig $50 out of your pocket and give your poor old computer a real graphics card, instead of weighing it down with this Intel crap. Don’t you realise that the reason your PC crashes so often, and makes you hate it, is that POS cheap-ass grahpics card you got in there?”

/me has occasionally wondered if there’s a viable business model in giving away a good graphical game having previously arranged commision-based-sales with major online retailers - "I’ve detected you’re running a 5-year-old GeForce; you can order a new GF4 from amazon right now (click here), and have it on your doorstep for tomorrow, for just £99.99 - go on, live a little!

PS, this game won’t look nice until you do"
