2D Particle Effect Editor

Anyone know a good one with an open export format? I’d like to have one for my library but re-writing tools is such wasted effort

Kev

Someone wrote a semi usable one for fluffware, but I dont really remember what it lacked.

I’m also not sure how a good particle editor should look like and what degree of flexibility it should offer.

I remember Weston wrote one a while back…Its on IOTD somewhere. Not sure if he wants to share it or not

Hi,

I’m going to revive my “particle reality project” and I’m bussy with a particle efffects editor for it which will be on par with the one used in particle illusion.

Particle Reality Project: http://sourceforge.net/projects/particlereality/
Particle Illusion (the editor and engine I’m trying to mimic): http://www.wondertouch.com

E.S.T. - 20 december 2006 (depending on how much time I have)

Hehe. Another xmas release

Hi,
I interested about the status of the project. Is there been any progress?

yes there has been a new particle editor called Pedigree more information can be found at
http://slick.cokeandcode.com/index.php?entry=entry061127-065341

with a jws version over at http://slick.cokeandcode.com/demos/pedigreetest.jnlp

Should note that Pedigree is/was intended as a stop gap measure until Particle Reality was available.

EDIT: Should also note that Pedigree is now Whiska’s flavoured thanks to an active user (void256).

Kev

Hmm pedigree doesn’t work very well on my computer (ubuntu linux). It crashes and the UI is borked at times. If I ever find the time, I’ll look into it myself, but that’s not very likely. Particle reality doesn’t seem to have been updated either, is there anything else available?

ATI card by any chance? Seems to be issues with LWJGL AWTCanvas and ATI cards (at least thats whats been reported so far)

Kev

nope, nvidia

Does anyone still has a source available which provides the .jar of the Pedigree particle editor?
Google search isnt really satisfying, anyone can help me out? I only found an outdated source code of the editor :frowning:

Thanks!

Should be here.

Cheers buddy. Hopefully I can build it successfully  !

Does someone know whether there is a way to get this going without forking the entire repository?
I downloaded it as .zip and was hoping I could just start particle editor but unfortunately it says that it cant resolve all dependencies.

For what it is worth, this video shows a nice JavaFX-based particle program. Links to source code are provided in the comments. It’s not an editor, per se, but it could be very valuable reference for making one.

I’m pretty sure someone at JGO made a particle editor in the last 5 or 6 years, but I can’t recall who. (Nate? StumpyStrust?)
