Summary: this company is doing the same thing as JGF, but on a narrower scale (no developer support, no articles, no general community stuff like technologies + FAQ’s etc), and with an additional revenue stream over those proposed for JGF: gambling games (pay-to-play tournaments). They appear to be well established in related markets, but to only just be breaking in to the online games themselves.
Apparently, they developed a middleware system much the same as JGF’s (except theirs was was developed purely for these games, whereas JGF is customizing a GrexEngine system) a year ago, and now most of their revenue is from the profits of running cash tournaments using 3rd party developers games. Like JGF plans to, they give the money back to the developers (although I couldn’t find a reference to what percentage they keep for themselves; seeing as they’ve just had $1.5 million funding, I’m guessing they keep a large percentage!).
Aside from being a good opportunity for people here to make money out of their games (NOTE: I’m not actually recommending them - I haven’t met anyone who’s worked with them - but if they deliver then it could be a good deal), I would like to hear some feedback about them, if anyone’s spoken to them before…?
