Uve got the XLib issue right? Try beta3- this one should work, although since build Mar-27 the XLib problems are gone here.
Well about my performance problem, is it possible that jogl somehow uses the wrong OpenGL driver/system? I have a strong feeling that it uses this mesa thing instead of the fglrx driver? But just a feeling, I dont have enough knowledge whats going on behind the scenes
